Ok this is what I got I have a 91 samurai with a 1.3 in it. I was having trouble with it turning over it acted as though thte battery was dead or the solenoid was goin. I could tap on the starter and it would fire away or I could just keep trying to turn it over and it would catch and fire up. So I thought starter solenoid going out or dead spot in starter. Well got a new starter and I am having the same problem as before, only this time I can here the solenoid ingaging. I checked the battery, cables, and what wires I could trace and all seemed good. Once I get it to turn over it will start a few times but letting it set and it goes through the whole I am not moving no matter what. Also somtimes when it decides to turn over it is like there is a strain on the starter. This is also a manual transmission.
Any help or ideas would be great.

You have the clicky starter problem found in many Sami's.
The problem is the solenoid gets it's power through the ignition switch. When the switch gets old it can not supply enough current so it just clicks the starter.
Pull the wire off of the starter, run it through a "Bosch style" relay that is connected to the battery. Problem solved!
Many of the aftermarket vendors sell clicky starter fix kits.

How good is your battery? have it checked! I have broken cells out from rough roads :o

Yep it was the clicky start thing. Got a relay and wired it up and seems to be working.

Wild,
I don't think it is the same on a Track/Kick. I think this only works on Sami's.

:( Well I have a clicky starter too :'(
I figured 275,000 miles of keys dangling
could have caused a problem, that and I
had to take apart the switch once and
fit the contacts in there, they had worn
grooves where the contact rings come
together, I'm going to have to get a new
switch if I can't fix this one again, that
or get some parts from another Kick

Try having your battery & charging system checked... and posts cleaned. (Free |removethispart|@ tire stores?) If it's still doing it, check voltage when cranking |removethispart|@ 2 spots. 1: At batt, 2: at starter. If they are significantly different, you have a prob in between... cables, cable connections, or starter relay.

Well I figured out my problem
with the clicky starter, it was a bad
solonoid, I had a spare from a Metro
so I pulled out the starter and swapped it.
Works like a champ, and the old solonoid,
the end cap where the wires connect, was
loose, so somtimes it would start, and somtimes
it would click, till yesterday, it refused to start.
