I called over to NAPA just now to get a price for resurfacing my flywheel. I was told that Samurai's have a two step flywheel and would require more money ($50)..... Does this sound about right?
I live on a Island and NAPA is the only game in town... This particular store has a reputation for over charging so I thought I would check with you guys.
Thanks,
Dennis

I think I payed $35.00 at a car quest. I may be mistaken. I assume you are putting in a new clutch. Otherwise I don't think it's worth resurfacing the flywheel for the old clutch. While you have it off though, there's the rear main seal.

Is the flywheel really bad or is it just glazed? You might be able to take a sanding block with some 400 grit sandpaper on it. I have done this on a couple of occasions on several rigs. Just lightly run the sanding block over the flywheel until the shine has is gone.
Just a thought.

Adam,
Yes... I have a new clutch and rear seal  .... I was just thinking, do you need to drain the engine oil before removing old seal? I kinda have this vision of running around looking for bucket as the oil pours out. :-\

Takai,
I haven't gotten around to pulling it off yet so I don't have any idea as to what it looks like.. That is a good idea about just sanding it as the old clutch was working fine before the tranny went south.
Do you know if this has a two stepped surface?
Thanks

here's my 2 pennies.....
use a heavy grit emery cloth, and the 2nd step is a finer emery cloth..... makes sense to me. :-\
first a good rough up to clean, and then a finishing smoother.... ??? idk tho... i have only done like a dozen or so.... use emery cloth... not sand paper... good thought tho...

I would do the same thing if I ever had emery paper around. I never seem to have it around when I need it. ;D

Bring yours over... I have lots of emery cloth.
