Title: Got my Bodylift on....
Post by: Bandit02 on March 03, 2008, 05:04:23 PM
Nothing special, just wanted to show you guys a pic of my litte tracker now that I've put the 2" RRO bodylift on... Wasn't a hard job at all. Straight forward and only took a few hours including workin on gettin my shifters to work right and all that jazz. The best part was that all of the nuts spun right off with no problems (I started sprayin down with PB blaster about 2 weeks ago  ;D )

Anyway, sorry she's dirty, but that's what you get when you're not a mall crawler.

before...

after...

Now I've just gotta make me a set of bumpers.  ::)

The tires are 31x10.50x15 Federal Couragia M/T's. I had never heard of them before I got them, and was a bit skeptical, but now, I woulnd't want anything else. They wear really well, and they are very tough. I air down for riding the trails and I drive over sharp creek rocks in a tight ravine that causes the rocks to slide all along my sidewalls,  and some knarly drop offs that I climb up, and they haven't gotten a tear or a hole yet.

I already had a 2" coil spacer lift from jeff1997 before I added the bodylift. I just added it to save my rockers and because I was rubbing in the rear at full stuff.

I'll get you a pic of the front and rear as soon as it stops raining... We're gettin a god awful downpour.

The tires came from a local tire shop in my hometown. They only ran me $105 each, no tax, but then again, this is s small town, so I know everyone in every store  ;) . Jeff is a stand-up guy, he sold me my coil spring spacers as well. Here is a link to the tires ...  http://www.federaltire.com/detail/106012/106012.html

Good lookin rig man.

Thanks.  ;D

Well, I'm not gonna try and tell you that she's a speed demon  . I could tell a difference as soon as I mounted them up to my tracker, but nothing like what I expected. I added a heavy 31" tire and I went from a 5" alloy wheel to a 8" steel wheel. But, I can still get up to speed on the highway, it just takes a litte longer to get there. Around town, it feels the same, still takes off strong. I personally have no complaints, in fact, I will be going to a 32 or possibly 33 when these tires wear out

But there are guys on here with a LOT more experience than me, that say they wont go over a 30" tire without a gear swap. So, You know what they say about opinions...

Of course, I still have to build my bumpers. the front looks even stubbier (is that even a word?  ??? ) now than it used too, haha

Honestly, it was just easier to get the strut back into the strut mount without fighting with the boots.... I know... pure laziness  ::)

Hey bandit  what kind of shocks and struts do you have??

Shocks are 92 Crown Vic shocks. The struts are stock with the mounts flipped. I still wanna get either some strut mount spacers or OME struts to help regain some of my droop.

I'd definitely go with the OME struts!! I am running them under my '96 4 door Tracker and LOVE them!  8)

my only issue w/ the OME stuff is price.... they are pretty high, but people seem to think its worth it, so they must make some killer product.

i'm a cheapskate and am using my stockers.
i cut spacers from 1/2" pvc(like sch40) and that helped the droop.
could have gone thicker, and probably will next season. at least 3/4".
cv angle concern.
i've disconnected my sway bar to make it independent and it seems fine on the road- more body roll, of course, but not scary.
just a thought, my body lift is less.

I agree; OME is higher priced. Personally I think it's worth it to have trouble free, quality 4x4 shocks, struts and coils.  ;D

Bandit02,

How bad was the rubbing before installing the body lift? i am thinking of installing 265/70 R16 (almost the same overall radius as 31x10.5 R15) without installing the bodylift. opinions please. ???

If you just want to ride on the streets, you can do it, but don't think about using a driveway unless you are perfectly square with it.

If you are going to run a OEM Wheel, that will help. It will keep the tire Taller and Skinner. You will need to hammer out the Pinch Weld/Seam on the lower firewall/inner fender. They STILL may rub. You will have to Trim the Bumper Cover too.

If you are going to use a Aftermarket wheel, you will probably need to trim the Fender too, in addition to the above notes.

My personal favorite, 2" Coils or Spacers and 2" body lift with 31's on OEM Wheels.

See my post, #4.  ;)

Here is a photo of the current setup attached (1.25" coil spacers) with the OEM 16" RIMS.

I am a bit confused, i like the looks of the rig up attached earlier from Bandit02 before installing the bodylift, but i want to avoid the rubbing/further modifications that's why i am thinking of installing 255/65R16 ATR tires. what do you think? will that cause any issues?

Here's some good info on Understanding Metric Tires Sizing. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=46 (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=46)

and a Chart: http://www.quadratec.com/jeep_knowledgebase/article-15.htm (http://www.quadratec.com/jeep_knowledgebase/article-15.htm)

Base your desired tire size on the size you are currently running. Wider Tire? "265" or "275".

If you want a Taller Tire, get something with a "70" or "75" series sidewall.

Finally, Rigged up 31 x 10.5 R15. attached are the recent photos.

The only thing remaining is to flip the front struts, any guidance on that would be great.

appreciate your opinions.
