We just cooked the IFS front diff in my buddy's 98 Sidekick Sport. We have been wanting to do a coil sprung Solid axle swap using a set of Toyota Solids.
Thing is they are 4.10's front and rear, is this going to be low enough gearing or is it going to be even more doggy then the 1.8l Auto? Probably shooting for 33's but realisticly will have 32s or 31s
Doing this on a budget as this is a winter beater that he was to trash on the local trails when he's not getting pulled out be my jeep.
Also, is 300.00 for a pair ready to put on after we fab up the brackets a good deal?

Probably the wrong thing to say on this forum!! >:D

Agreed, but a Zuki open front and read will not stand to my Heep on 14/35's with 7", Long arms and locked all around. He admits that he Zuki will take way to much work to go the places we go, he's my #1 co-pilo/spotter.
So back to the Q? What is the common Gear for a Sport?
-
You would have to run it in low range on the street with 4.10's.
-
Ya, that's what I was want to know. From my research says 5.12's are stock. So re-gearing the axles would really be needed to run 33's.
-
And I think 5.29's are the lowest R&P gears for the Yota axles. So too make any difference from that point you will have to regear the T/C.
And $300 doesn't sound too bad.
-
I kinda disagree I ran yotas on my sami locked with 4:10's and stock t case with the stock sami 5 speed, and 35" tires on 16" wheels and a 1.6 16 valve, I could do 75 mph and with a little clutch burn go just about any where off road
-
But to be a little closer to ideal and considering that anything inour area need wheel speed to clean treads (our trails are swampy) 4.10s probably are too high, and for cost T/C re-gear is not budget really for what we are building.
For what it is going to be used for, Sami Axles with a Lower stock Gearing, keeping the tires to about 31-32's seams to be the route to go as sami axles can be found in the gears from stock, and can be had cheap do to most guy upgrade of toss the whole vehicle to the wreckers.
-
just do dual cases stick a sami case behind the kick case, you can find one for 40 bucks or less at a junk yard :o
-
More info on dual sami case please, got any links, the only thing is that this rig is going to see mostly winter street driving, so dual T/C does not fix the street gearing.
-
its really a bugger because you have to cut the front output off the kick case so the rear case front output can go past it, on second thought take off the case and sell it then buy a sami case and put 4:16 gears in they are only about 399 bucks and you can offset that with sellin the other case, and cause its a sami case you get a 20% reduction in 2 and 4 high and I belive its 160% in low range, you will need a custom adapter from brent at trail tough its an aluminum hard press seal wich eliminates the married case

Not really relevant as the Sammi doesn't have a 1:1 high range like the Kick.
-
considering that the diffrence between a stock sami case and a stock kick case is less than the diffrence between a 35" tire and a 31" tire I feel its very relevent :P

There is a 5.71 R&p for yotas, not a very well liked ratio, because of the weakness of it.

May that be the reason the 5.29's are the gears talked about?

You didn't do well at maths at school did you? The difference between a 31 and a 35 is only 13% and the difference between a Kick and a Sammi case is about 41% and I reckon that 41% is bigger than 13%, not less than as you seem to think plus you have changed the diff ratios to help with bigger rubber and he would be changing them by an even larger amount in the wrong direction. As I said before, what you stated is not really relevant :P

Just sayin that there is a lower gear than a 5.29, im sure you could run a 5.71 in a any zuk or track and it would be just fine.
I have talked to people who are running them in there toy axled Vitaras with no problems.
It was mostly the Toyota guys running doubler's with 40s that told me they were popping them.
