Title: Calmini tcase skid install problems
Post by: Element on March 07, 2008, 08:47:20 PM
97 5 spd 4dr:
I am having problems with the z clamp. I have confirmed I have the right parts for the kit. Anybody have any info?

Am I installing it correctly???

54 is a pic from the rear side of the cross tube.

54a is a pic of where it would mount to the cross member

55 is showing you the amount of play there is with the skid tightened
down and moved back against the cross tube.

56 shows the z clamp and the bolts tightened down all the way.

I have mine bolted to the bottom of the crossmember (54a). Maybe the fitting is different for the 4 door, but I think it makes more sense on the bottom.

there are no hole on the bottom of the crossmember. I think they are a little different. This one has a spot for it to mount coming off the top of it.  Also the z clamp is wider than my cross tube...
Calmini has been notified, they are looking into it. I hope to hear back from them soon...

It goes to the bottom. I couldn't get mine to fit properly but Mike posted a pic some time back showing how they fit together.

My crossmember is different than the 2 door. I will snap another pick. Their is a factory skid mountg right where the calmini is sitting. My cross member looks like this on the 4 dr.

Well, it is tightend down solid with the use of an angle iron shim. ;)
I will worry about this later. Calmini tried trouble shooting and couldn't figure out the cause. They offered to send me a " custom " z clamp. I think it is the clamp or the holes in the skid is not close enough to the cross tube end... In the meanwhile I am protected tho...
