Title: trying to get my 1.6 swap street legal....
Post by: billwiii on March 14, 2008, 05:27:41 PM
hey guys, i just spent a couple hours at the state (alaska) referee station trying to find out if a 1.6 swap ( into my '86 sammie ) is an emissions legal swap here and they basically said that if i can somehow show that the samurai and sidekick are in the same "chassis group" than i could get the go ahead.....i was just wondering if any of you knew or had an idea where i might find any info on this as i would really like to make this a rig i can drive to the trails with....and seasonal tags wont cut it up here for me (too short of a season lol )....the ref stations database show that the 1.3 was availiable in both models but apparently that doesnt do it for them......i was hoping that some of you might have gone through something similar so i could pick your brain lol

i'm not sure how it works up there, but down here, if they don't know about it, it will pass....  and depending on what 1.6 ur going to go with, like the 8V u can put s stock intake and carb on it, and it looks identical.....    if  go with the 16V, it's just fuel injected, and it should be street legal....  just don't say anything.......  just let them do it the tests.....  my 2cents....

here is my set up, and i'm street legal....
