I have a 1994 Sunrunner GT and I was thinking of taking out the old 1.6L and puting in the new 2.0L that makes 155HP, or should I just turbo or supercharge the 1.6L. I just need some info to get my brain going :)

I like the Turbo mob myself ;D

It's like your reading my mind. The new Aerio has a 155 hp 152 lb/ft 2.3L. A certain moderator told me that the 2.0L would bolt up to my automatic. I hope the 2.3L would do the same. With the gearing I'll have that's plenty of power, and I'll still have only the weight of an inline 4. Me likey.

I just realized I'm excited about 155 horsepower!!! Good lord I need help.

LOL, ya I was/am excited about 155 HP too
You see 155 HP can propel me to 95 MPH in
the 1/4, and there are not too many street
car that do that, let alone a SideKick ;D

As I understand it, the engine/transmission mounting points are the same but the depth of the bellhousing is different and the 2.0 runs a different crank so there will be issues with the torque converter and flex plate. Also, although the 2.0 was put into the Sidekick in OZ it had a wider chassis so custom engine mounts will be the order of the day. If anyone can confirm this it would be great as I am looking at this as an option.

It sounds like you need someone to just tell you what to do! :D
I say go for it man. Do you have the 2.0 right now, or would you have to buy one? I say if you have it, do it, plus you have some options: 1-swap would mean an extra 1.6 that you could throw in a sami 2- or you could sell the 1.6 to cover the expense of engine mounts for the 2.0 and whatever else you may need for it. If you don't have the 2.0, just hassle wild for all the details on his turbo and do that with your 1.6, I'm assuming it would be less costly...

Swap in the 2 litre, and turbo it! That's the only obvious solution! You could get like 175+hp! :o

Are you thinking 2.0 V6? :) The 2.0 I4 will bolt to the 1.6 8-valve and 16 valve and 1.8 Sidekick transmissions with no mods. IF the 2.3 uses the same transmission goodies as the 2.0 it should be backwards compatible as well.

What about the motor mounts? Do they bolt up as well?

No. We're talking several different vehicles here. 1.8 from the Sidekick Sport and Esteem, 2.0 from the Vitara and the 2.0 & 2.3 From the Aerio. The Esteem and Aerio engines being transverse mounted.
FWIW, The 1.8 engine that I have bolted to a 1.6 8-valve 2WD transmission appears to have all the the same tapped holes for the engine mounts. Therefore, it might actually work in a Sidekick with the original Sidekick 1.6 engine mounts. Dunno..

Now for a stupid question: How do you go about putting motor mounts for a RWD/4x4 setup on an engine that came transeversley mounted from the factory?

No, I'm talking about mating a 2.0 4cyl to an Aisin Warner 4spd auto. I know the bolt pattern is the same to mate the engine to the transmission. As I understand it the 2.0 has a 8 bolt crank that is quite different from the 1.6 so some machining and shimming may be required and the depth of the bellhousing may be an issue as well as needing to change from the 1.6 torque convertor and flex plate.

Didn't the last trackers made have a 2.0L??? does anyone know the power ratings off hand?

Well the Swift engines have holes in the right places so if the 2 litre uses the same block for the fwd and rwd cars chances are they'll be some holes in the right area

Ah. So why not just get it from a RWD application if they came in those? I'd imagine it'd be much easier to find a wrecked GV or late-model tracker than a Swift or whatever car the 2.0 came in... at least here it would be... :-/

Well over here they call the fwd saloon a Baleno, in the US I don't know (Aero?). What I was trying to say is that its unlikely that Suzuki would make two different blocks so the fittings for fwd and rwd will most probably be there whatever vehicle the engine is out of.

I was just wondering what the advantage of going with the FWD engine is... does that one put out more power than the one in the GV/new tracker? I got your point about both applications probably having the same block ;)
Over here the Suzuki cars are really rare... at least where I'm at they are.

I was told from a local wrecking yard the the Aero engines are just cheaper than the SideKick engines. But I found a few places that get Engines streight from Japan with 30k miles and a 12 month,12000 mile warrenty for 700 bucks. I haven't tried them out yet.

That was posted here a few weeks ago, wasn't it?
If you got an engine from them, you could be like "OMG!JDM YO!" ;D
Sorry... couldn't resist :)

Just thought i'd mention it again for people looking. I know wreckin yards in my neighborhood charge 1200 bucks and up for high milage, maybe run or not engines. Just check with local engine rebuilders and see if they import.
JDM YO ÂÂ

I'd love to hear some feedback from someone who used that place, since it might be a valuable resource in the future :P

Japanese Domestic Market... it's become a ricer thing to have an OMGJDM!1 parts ;D

No advantage other than you might come across a FWD one rather than a rwd one. Explosivo was asking about fittting one in a rwd car.

well i was told by AMSC's head corporate mechanic that the new Aerio 2.3 is based on the same "G" series motor as the 99-up Vitara motor. he says it will take some modification but it could mate to the 99-up 2.0L tranny with a little work, no direct bolt-up.
he did say how ever they are the same so the engine mounts should match up. from there he said you'll need 99-up Vitara bell house and all Aerio computers and wiring. He shook his head and said wiring this motor and with newer vitara stuff in 1st gen suzuki trackkick wil be a nightmare.

99+ 2.0 I4 have 127Hp and I'm pretty sure 130Tq ;D
But I got to tell ya, It feels like more than 127hp. But I still want a 2.7V6 8)

Ok, so im still not to sure  ??? will the 2.0L aerio engine fit were the 1.6L was??

??? anyone ???
