Title: 93 sidekick valve adjustment

I need some advise adjusting the valves on my 93 sidekick 16 valve engine.

Do you have a shop manual or a Haynes or Chiltons manual?

They outline the procedure and provide the specs.

If you want to tackle this kind of job and you don't have any of those manuals, my advice would be to get at least one.

If you need the procedure now, I can try to scan the pages or type it in.

yes i have a manual but iwas wondering what kind of feeler gauge to use on the intake valves . It looks like you need a special gaige to fit in between the the rocker arm grove and the valve stem. It looks like it takes a special feeler gauge. If your manual outlines this better Iwould apprecate you letting me know what it says.

I can use a plain flat feeler gauge on my 8v.  I've never worked on the 16v.  It looks like a weird set-up on the intake side.

Here's a pic from my Haynes manual (it doesn't look too helpful)...

That helped a lot. My manual tells you to measure between the  rocker arm and  the valve stem. I couldn't see how you could do that with the way the rocker arms are shaped.

Also search this forum for the thread titled "16v valve adjustment???" which appeared in April 2004. I didn't use a special tool when I did the job- a wrench and a screwdriver were just fine.

Glad to hear it.

One picture of the 8v showed them using a flat feeler that was bent about 30* on the end.  Maybe that could work for you.

Thanks for all the help I really need it . Also I had the distributer out and now I can' get it to seat down all the way on its mount I think I have everything lined up is there a trick to it? I have achiltons manual but it just says to drop it back in no other details, that manual is junk! :-/

Speakin' of valve adjustments... anyone know where to find a set of the dual-step feeler guages?

Mine are getting battered & the dudes at "PartsRUs" look at me like I'm asking for a left handed monkey wrench.

I need to adjust my valves on my 16 valve motor. It sounds like its going to explode. Can I use regular feeler guage to get in there or do i need the factory service tool?
