Title: trannys (not chicks with boto's)
Post by: halfman halfamazing on April 03, 2008, 01:24:20 AM: my 94 sidekick was getting stuck in gear (clutch wasn't dissengaging) and not letting me shift, the clutch was replaced about 5 months ago (and moderately hammered since then), i tried tightening the cable and that didn't do shit, so i took my tranny out, but now that it's sitting under my house i don't know what to do with it. what should i do? what should i look for?

Post by: Zukipilot on April 03, 2008, 06:04:08 AM: Since you already took your tranny out, you probably don't want to hear this.......It's probably your clutch cable. They frequently go bad in these rides, but luckily it's (normally) a cheap, easy fix. The casing wears out allowing it cable to tweak instead of pull the clutch arm.

I would look at that before tearing into the tranny,

when i take off the clutch cable the thing doesn't bind up from the pedal to the end of the cable, not connected to the trans. It's new from when the clutch got changed.

Post by: Zukipilot on April 07, 2008, 05:50:14 AM: No, the cable itself. Pull it and inspect for wear and heat damage. The casing gets damaged where the cable will twist before it pulls the clutch arm not allowing the clutch to disengage. Also check the mount to the fire wall. I have see a couple of aftermarket cables that had a plastic mount to the fire wall that would split, allowing the cable to pull through instead of holding in place a pulling the clutch arm.

Post by: halfman halfamazing on April 08, 2008, 11:02:24 PM: pulled the cable and it had a couple of little nicks in it but nothing major, and the fire wall mount is plastic but still solid. i don't think it's the cable

Post by: halfman halfamazing on May 06, 2008, 12:18:02 AM: changed throw out bering, that didn't do shit. adjusted clutch cable as far as it would go, that didn't do shit either, all i can think is change clutch out again, but it looked like it was in good shape when i took it apart? What te fuck?!

Post by: Rhinoman on May 06, 2008, 04:44:01 AM: The clutch cable should have 1mm (40 thou) of free play at the clutch end. I've found that that is quite critical.
