Title: samurai loosing burning oil

Just bought a 86 Samurai with stock everything 1.3L 8 valve. Compression is good. Intake vacuum measurement is good. no leaks on outside of engine.previous owner just replaced front main and cam seal, water pump, timing belt and tensioner, valve cover gasket and fuel pump.
Blue smoke is coming out of the exhaust. I'm loosing more than a quart of oil per tank of gas! Besides valve seals where is all this oil coming from?

My first thought is that the rings are worn.

what is the actual compression in each cylinder? have you tested the pvc check valve? what brand and weight of oil are you running?

Compression is good.

Define "good".

If you're blowing blue smoke and using that much oil per tank, you've most likely got ring issues. Check the compression on each cyclinder and see if they are all within, say, 10% of each other. Also see what spec is.

Valve seals generally cause a puff of smoke upon acceleration after idling a while, not constant smoking. I've never really seen valve seals cause a drastic lost of oil. A quart of oil every 300ish miles is a lot.

That's like a 40:1 mix on a two-stroke!  :o

check the vacumn T going to the PCV valve.  it sometimes gets plugged with carbon and makes it smoke like a bitch . a  friend bought a sammi that the guy said was shot and needed rebuilt.  all it needed was that T cleaned out . it noow runs great and doesn't smoke at all

PVC valve? uuuhh what and where is that? I have a factory service manual by the way to help me figure this crap out.
compression is:
1, 190psi
2, 180psi
3, 190psi
4, 200psi
spec is 170 to 199 psi.cylinders should be within 14.2psi of each other. so I'm not too bad right?

oil was changed with 10w30 penzoil (one friend told me never to put that penzoil crap in again!)
this was done last week and the oil was black in a couple of days.
I tried to put some restore crap from a can to see if I could get it to smoke a little less till i could actually get into the engine. made it worse i think.
Also put premium gas with a little octane boost the first tank after the oil change to burn off some carbon.

My car guru buddy said that the restore is probably helping burn off the carbon.
suggested that if I wanted to burn out carbon I could change the oil and for the last 1/2 quart use Dextron trans fluid. keep changing oil till it stays new looking for a while.

My freind with the stock car says no no don't keep changing the oil etc because you will wash out the bearings and then you will have to do a rebuild for sure. He also said to start to top off my oil with a heavier oil wieght. He said to try the compression check agian with a couple drops of oil on the piston and see if my numbers suddenly jump up. if so then the rings and/or cylinder are at fault.

I'm in Chicago. Does anyone know of a sammy expert around here?

your compression should be fine, by now you should have found the pvc valve, left side of valve cover, with a T hose attaching to it, just buy a new one, can't hurt.
