Title: Which struts for 1.5" lift?
Post by: drewler on April 08, 2008, 04:01:52 PM
I just lifted my 02 Tracker 1.5" with a set of homemade coil spacers last night.  I already had longer shocks for rear but can't find anything for the front.  During my "test drive ;D" the front struts over extended a couple of times.  Is there a brand that will fit, maybe a strut from a different car that would work, or maybe strut extenders?  My local parts store can't seem to be able to help.

Any help would be awesome.  It's my daily driver and I don't won't to get an alignment before the front is done so I'm driving with bad camber until then.  Bad for tires. :(

get some camber bolts and you can adjust the camber well enough 'till you get it aligned.
have you flipped the strut mounts?

I don't think that I can flip strut mounts.  I have a traction bar that goes over the engine to each mount.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned, but OME struts will be fine for a 1.5" lift, and will give a better ride than stock.  AND they will give the extra articulation, which flipping the strut mounts will not.

Can you tell us how do you made your spacers ( Material, dimention etc...) i got a 2002 and i look for a 1.5 inch lift.

And for the struts Boondox.com sells 2'' extenders for 55$

i use the bds extensions from boondox, they work fine and are a give a little more travel than the OME struts, but if you're struts are getting old i would recommend the OME's so you only have to do this once.  also, the extenders can be a pain to install on the strut.

I ended up ordering some BDS strut extenders.  They should do the job.

As for the spacers, I got the info from this site somewhere.  Digger gave all the sizes and it worked awesome.  I used UHMV which is basically super strong plastic(ordered it from "Lee Valley" in Canada).  The outside diameter is 4.25" and the holes in the center are 2.5".  Also following Diggers advice I used 1.5" thick on the back and 1" for the front and it ended up perfectly balanced front to back( 33" form ground to high point of fender( I also was already using 235/75/15's)).
