Walked back to the Sport in the Wallyworld parking lot yesterday and noticed a dark spot under the rear of the engine. Got it home and crawled under to check it out and it looks like the rear crank seal has sprung a leak. How much work is it to replace it? I have a feeling it is more of a task than I want to take on. The wallet is probably going to take a hit--I'll just have to tell the wife that we won't be eating out at McD's for a while.

make sure its not the distributor leaking down thrru the bellhousing

Or the back corners of the valve cover, I had to change both the valve cover gasket and distributor as Ross pointed out. Power wash all the oil off and have a good look at where it's coming from.

Thanx for the replies. The 1.8 in the Sport doesn't have a distributor. The engine is fairly clean--I have put only 20+k miles on it since I bought it from a dealer who apparently cleaned it up. I see no sign of leaks from the valve cover. I was hoping it was something simple like a gasket leak or a leaky oil pressure sensor, but I haven't found any. Haven't found the oil pressure sensor, for that matter.
