Hi guys!
Would the 6.5-1 tcase gears be way to over kill fr a sammy with the stock 1.3 and 31-11.50-15 Swamper LTBs, I was looking at the 4.16-1 but that seems a little to small? Any help would be great!

this question all depends on your driving.
are you still going to drive it on the street or is it going to be trail only.
I want to go with 6.5:1 in my t-case and I have the 31 ltb's as well and 4.62's in my diffs
but I want to crawl over everything and my rig is a trailer / garage queen.

You could find a rpm calculator.
ackfaq has one I think.
figure out if you would be running too much rpm at highway speeds.
So big question is what type of driving will you be doing.
Also cheapest 6.5:1 i HAVE found is trail gear. $500 dollars for the gears.

One thing to consider is wheel speed in reverse. One of the common problems I've seen with the really deep gears is that when one need some spinnin' tires to get back out of a muddy mess, one does not have it and high range will just bog out.
That may or may not be a problem where you're at / what you're wheeling.

I use it a little on the hiway! For back and forth to work. About 15km but not much more.mostly for running around the small lakes where i live! It still has the stock gears so im not going to change them. I have a 1.6 to swap in but thats along way down the road!!

I have 6.5's in my sammi and I can't even move in high range without starting in 1st of course I run an automatic trans wich is a little higher geared than the 5 speed, in low range its perfect for my 35's but im planning on 39's and I think ill need 5:29 r&p to replace my 4:10's I don't think you can go too low in low range, as far as high look at trail tough's 6.4:1 with much less high range reduction

I just dont want to spent to much! Thats why i was looking at the 4.16-1 or the 6.5-1 cause they are not that much $ All the others are so much more!

I do have one point to put about trail tough's look at everything you get with the gears and then add those items to the other gears. it comes out about the same.
since because you have the t-case open you might as well do the bearings and all the seals ie a rebuild kit.

Is there a gear set for a tracker that lowers the top range also? ???
Running 30/9.50/15s MTs killed 5th gear on the highway.
dont need to low of low range for the wheelin I do.
But to lower the whole set would be cool

Someone posted that Trail Tough is working on a setup that will decrease the high range. Otherwise you are looking at mating a Samurai Transfer case to the existing Tracker setup.
Lower gears would probably be a better idea. Some 5.38's from a 91-93 8v 4 Door Tracker would work perfect.

i just put 6.5 gears in my zuki with toyota axles (diffs are 4:11) and the stock motor with 33" BF A/Ts. if you get this kit, get trail-gear's t-case mounts, cause after a couple hours of wheelin' you'll break your t-case mounts. the low range rocks for well.... rocks, but the high range isn't affected much except for 1st through 3rd gear. 4th and 5th are still gutless. i now redline at 55mph in 5th gear in high range and redline at about 12 in 5th gear in low range. the kit is pretty simple to put together yourself if you have a press and an air wrench, but don't try it without them. hope you make the right descision.

I have stock 1996 gears now ( 512s correct?)
would the 538s bolt right in?
also is anyone still making aftermarket lower axle gears? ???

Scoyy: There are lower range gears on the way, there was a post for "what gears do you want" a few months ago from one of the companies.
The 5.38 gears will swap directly in the back, but on the front you will need to swap your differential. This is because of the change in the side gears from 22 to 26 spline.
J-Ron - Yea, we tore up a couple of stock transfer case mounts before switching to the "bullet proof" mounts from Rocky Road. And we have torn up a couple of those as well. :) Two rigs switched over to the new aluminum transfer case mounts from Trail Tough. They look great, but they do transfer a lot of drive line noise into the frame. Low Range Off-Road has some nice looking Rock4x Transfer case mounts with full warranty, but they have been out of stock for a while.

Man all this talk about ripping T-case mounts! I cant wait to put mine in and see how they are.
I tried to get the rock4x Tcase mounts for my rig but they have been out for a real long time.
So i just got a bunch of stock ones for back ups, then when i got my spidertrax Ebreak they sent me some of there style mounts, I'm curious to see how they are going to hold up.

I don't have the extra brace on my transfer case, if so that would probably fix the problem. But I have torn up the bushings in the Rocky Road Bulletproof mounts. They problem is they have a small lip on them, and that will sometimes tear and then the entire piece just rips apart. A slightly stiffer poly would be nice as well. I made up a replacement from a screw driver handle when I was in a hurry. :D
