Like the title says I broke my front differential housing this morning so I'm wondering what are my options. I want to install a steel housing but I am not sure which will fit. Any help would be appreciated.

The 2.5 V6 manual GV's definitely had a steel housing as far as I know.
From what I've read Turbo diesel 5-door Vitaras and Grand Vitaras, and '03-on Automatic V6's had steel housing also.

thanks for the reply. Will all ofthese cases fit my Vitara?

As far as I know the mounting points for the housing itself are exactly the same for both steel and allum.
The rear mounting point, which is part of the diff center carrier (third member, whatever you call it), varies between different models. But I assume you would keep your existing carrier and internals and fit them into the new steel housing.

Yeah that was my plan but just a steel case is $400 and I've seen some complete assemblies for 400 at salvage yards so If I could have both parts steel fior the same money I would be happy. of course I would have to most likely move my gears to the new carrier. It looks like the case was way weaker than the carrier so I'm wondering if the carrier will hold. The case held for at least 5000 miles of hard 4wd use. Thanks for your help.

You want everything steel, both the center axle housing and the pig. Gv or XL7s, they both work as long as they are steel. If you get the XL7, you need to get the pig mount as well, as it's different than what is in everything else, and still bolts to the crossmember.

Thanks I was wondering about that.
