Title: Flanged & centered front diff
Post by: whitfield on October 15, 2004, 07:11:52 PM
Any body ever check out a late 70's early 80's Jaguar rear Dana 44 IFS flanged chunk.  I hear it would make a great centerd flanged Locked unit for the front of the Kick.   ???   ;) ;) ;)  Sounded good around the fire at Zuwharrie.

Ebay research shows...
"The jag housing and gears are dana 44 with many ratios and parts readily avail in speed shops....  you can typically get a jag irs at pick your part salvage yards on sale days for under 100.00. look for the 69 thru 1985 years and the 6 cyl cars for a 330 ratio and the v 12 cars had 305 ratio.

Build your own D-44 to match your current ratio and add the OX locker with adapted Yota CV shafts  :o 8) :o

Jag diffs are not small it would need a lot of space under the motor. I don't know if its a Dana, not heard that before. They are very popular with hot rodders over here. I'm sure I bought a hot rod mag with an article on Jag rear ends about 20yrs ago. It will be here somewhere ::)

I tried centering a Trackers rear diff under mine (I have 3" additional also) and it wouldn't work without crossover mods.

A heavily modded front end would be a necessity.  I have an additional 4" under my engine and modding the crossmembers is not an issue.

Long travel (With minimal steering & CV bind), Selectable Locker or Posi, and extra Beefy CV shafts are the key benifits I'm looking at.

It's just begging for the front diff mod & Locker.
