I've had this 98 Kick 2dr auto 16v flotaing around the yard for a while (off of the road since mid 05). With fuel prices going up I wanted to build a comfortable yet capable rig I could drive to events and trail runs.

Just a mild build...
2" SKY MFG Body lift
2" coil spacers
fender trimming along the top of the factory plastic trim lines.
removed the stock 4.30:1 gears / installed 5.125:1 gears
Installed the Shrockworks bumper
Installed the 34" Swamper LTB's
I finished up the build on Wednesday, Drove it to work on Thursday and then 230+ miles with my wife and daughter for a shake down trail run at the ZU.

Crushed in both rockers, passenger side caught a big rock and forlded the rocker up and over so the passenger door would not open. I was able to correct them with a little camp side body repair. Both doors are opening an closing again. Steel square tube rockers soon. I also managed to blow out the front diff trying to climb the far left around the ledge below Kodack rock. I haven't checked yet but I believe it was the mounting ear by the pinion that broke the case.
Over all the little truk did very well. It will pull and maintain hwy speeed with power to spare. I averaged 20 MPG on the Hwy. Speedo was with in 3mph by GPS. Round trip + Wheeling was just unedr 590 miles, So I figure we put just a tad over 600 on it this weekend.
My only issue was on the last trail of the day. Trying to get thru a rocky up hill offcamber sectrion I spun the tires a little to hard (no locker) and couldn't get off the gas fast enough. When it caught traction rolling backwards I broke the aluminium front diff ~ Big suprise :o

Prior damage from PO convinced me to go extreeme. The body work is still just roughed in, once complete it will look much nicer. Well that is if i can limit the body damage meanwhile.

Looks good, and I here you about gas prices...
600miles / 20mph = 30gal. of gas = $105
compaired to:
600miles / 11mph = 54.5 gal of gas = $191
a difference of $86 for the weekend.
Looks like you will have to wheel a lot more to save yourself some more money!

do you like the shock works bumper? was it worth the price? did you install it ? was it difficult heavy????

I have Swamper envy! Truck looks great with those tires.

Thanks for the compliments!
I love the Shrock works bumper. It fits very well and gives the truck a finished look.
It may sound funny but I've noticed that with the bumper, the law doesn't give me a second look, but with out the bumper they will give me the eye and follow me around.
I installed it myself (solo), this can get tricky as it weighs about 100 LBS. I actually balanced it on a spare tire while I worked each side into place. I wouldn't recomend doing it like that the first time. i just removed it from my 4-dr so I was already familure with the proceedure.
Axles ~ no yota's yet, but i did dissassemble a samurai steel diff and chop out the oil return in preperationto fabricate a Steel front 3rd for my Kick. Now Ive got to chase down another set of front 5.125:1's

I thought that the Yukon gears were Sammy size only.

Nice rig and pics 8)
Would like to know how the front end holds up due to the tire size. ???

gears for kick/sam whats the dif? did you do a search???? just kidn

5.38:1 gears for kick/sam whats the dif?
About $300 ;) I swapped in 5.125:1 gears from a dead parts Kick for free. They get me .825 lower which is within 3mph of stock at 65MPH. For the $$$ ~ the extra .26 gearing difference of the 5.38's over the 5.13's isn't worth it to me.
That $300 will probally go towards T-case gears or a custom rear bumper....
