Title: 16 valve plugging out

Hello fellow Zukers,
I am having a problem with my 1998 tracker that has a 16 valve and 4 speed automatic trans. The problem is when I have it in 4wheel drive and only in 4low. It plugs and putts really bad only in 4low when there is a load on the motor such as coming out of a mud hole or climbing a muddy hill. It seems like there is a code that is being sent to the computer and not letting it rev past 1 to 2 grand. It does it only in 4low and not when I am driving it on the highway in 2 wheel drive. It is very irritating and a PITA especially when I know I can make it but the motor plugs out and it halts all forward movement. I changed all my plugs and wires and my airfilter is also new. Any ideas what it could be or what I should look for?

Is there a lot of water in these muddy holes & hills? Maybe your getting some water where it shouldn't be. Fuel system or elec. ???

Did you replace the cap and rotor at the same time as the plugs and wires?
