Title: 1986 samurai wont start
Post by: robertb on April 25, 2008, 07:50:33 AM
I have had my samurai for about a year.  I use it as a vehicle for kicking around at the ranch.  It has always run great.  About 3 months ago it would stop running.  It would run all day and then all of a sudden stop.  I would wiggle the distributor cap plugs and the thing would fire back up.

Just the other day I tried my old trick and the Sammy would not start. Upon checking the distributor cap wires I found water corrosion. So I have replaced the following:
-distributor cap
-distributor cap plug wires
-distributor spindle
-coil

After replacing all of these the little Sammy still will not run.  I marked all the wires when I took them off and believe that I put them back on in the correct firing sequence.  Even when I try to push start and pop the clutch the engine will not turn over.  Could this be a fuel pump, or timing problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Are you getting spark at the spark plugs?  One way to tell is to pull the spark plug and have someone hold it in place against the engine block while the engine is cranked over.  You should see them fire away.

If you don't have any spark, check to see if you are getting 12v at the positive side of the coil.

awwh, it is probally time to throw it away and get a new one.  I would be willing to pick it up and dispose of it properly for you at a very nominal price........ ;D ;D
