Title: Mustang Shocks?
Post by: jeannie on April 26, 2008, 08:40:20 AM
Can anyone tell me what year Mustang shocks will fit on my 1991 Sidekick?  Also... what year Grand Vitara coil springs will fit?

As for the GV springs, the stock fronts from 99 + up to 2005 (I think up to this year???) Grand Vitara or 4dr Tracker.... I just threw some in the front end of mine... love them!!! Yeilds a 2" lift, Pulled them from a junkyard for 15 each... Cheap way and a good way to lift the front...

Jerry!!!

i just took a loot at the old thread on the rustang shocks.  you will want to physically compare them to the stock shocks and the crown vics to be sure you are getting the correct shock.  mine are at least 3inches longer extended than stock shocks, if not more as they extended roughtly 1.5inches more than the crown vic rear shocks.

I have done this and bzzr2 is correct the crown vick shocks are a better choice in my opinion.

BIG DOG, your post mentions the crown vics are a better choice, in my post my thought was that the mustang shock was a better choice because they are longer than the crown vics but not so long that i had to change anything else to use them, direct bolt on.  not sure if that was what you meant?

i chose to use the mustang shocks as they required no modification to the bottom bolt sleeve and 'cause i figured the mustang was a lighter car than the crown victoria sedan and they would be softer.
i may be wrong, but it seems to work ok so far.

i'm not sure they would be softer due to the mustang being a performance car and the crown vic being a smooth sailing boat, but if travel is what you want for the same price go with the mustang(and easier mounting).  i run mine with xl7 coils so the back rides like a tank with no weight back there, likely a combo of both components.

Sorry bzzr that's not what I meant I meant that the crown vic is a better shock it has more travel.I bought both took them home and the Crown vic was a bit longer and compressed up shorter which would give you more articulation.Changing the bottom bushing is real simple I just used the resip saw and cut the bottom of the old shock so that the bushing just fell out then it just slid right into the new Crown vic shock no problem at all.And they work great!

there must be several different mustang shocks available out there.  when i did my comparison with the 3 different shocks the mustangs were longer then the broken crown vics i had been using for a year or so, by at least 1.5inches.  i bougth the ultra cheapos to test them out and thus far they are working out well.  for rear lift i use xl7 rear coils and a 1.75inch heep spacer, totalling somewhere around 3 inches of suspension lift.  anyway i sure wish i had gotten the part # and posted it up when i did this....
