Hello All,
I have a stock 1995 Suzuki Sidekick JX 4 door with 80,400 miles. I have had my car for 3 years now and it was great, but now about 6 months ago it has been giving me problems...
--When I start my car in the morning and let it idle, my car sounds like it is grinding on something. It sounds like it is coming from the center of the car. After about 3-5 minutes warming the car up, the grinding noise goes away. Does anybody know what this is or has anybody heard of this before?
--My car is stock as of now and I would like to add Bigger tires, Headers, Exhaust, and Intake, but I don't want to waste money adding on until I figure that noise first.
Any help would be great...
Thank you, John

I just got my 1990 Sammi last week so I am a newbie. But if your ride is a manual, could it be the thro out bearing? Does it do it while idling in the driveway until warm or driving down the road until drive?

hard to be sure, since I cannot hear it in person, but could possibly be the starter is not disengaging. This is just a guess.

It's a 5 speed manual.
It only does it in the morning while it idles and it goes away after a couple minutes ... What is a thro out bearing?
Thanks for the help so far. Now atleast I have something to research.

I had a bad catalytic converter that did that sort of thing, too. Sounded kinda like a can full of rocks until either it heated up or the engine came down from high-idle. Get under there and hit it with a stick or something and see if it rattles.

The throw out bearing is part of your clutch assembly. If it is going out then the noise should go away when you step on the clutch.

I'm with beercheck on this one.
My 93 kick catalytic rattle pretty good on startup now but goes away. In fact, the rattling cat combined with my super huff of startup valve leakage makes my truck look pretty ghetto whenever she's cold now. I like it. You could learn to like it too!

You guys were right. I grabbed a stick and hit the cat and something was loose. While I was down there i found out that my exhaust was bent and cracked.
Now I have a reason to get Headers, Cat, and Exhaust...
--Any Tips on a $300-500 set up that wouldn't sound like a Honda Civic or Harley. Just a nice low tone that would get me excited when I start it every morning before work... A little more power wouldn't be bad either.
Any Tips would be great...
Thanks Again you guys.
