Title: Best pavement handling on a samurai
Post by: rkteckt on June 12, 2005, 08:13:48 AM
Hi there,

Im interested in improving the handling on my lifted Samurai. The lift kit was a homemade job and the bushings are shot. The steering z-link is homemade and almost touches the springs.

Im looking for great on-road handling without really sacrificing the great off-roading.

Any Suggestions?

Chris

I have rears up front springs with polly bushings, trail tough ott steering, and heavy duty gas shocks, the shocks are a little stiff for slow off roading but still flex well but on the road they kick butt, with larger tires aired down there not bad.

Gotta fix the bushings eventually  :P  Fix the bushes first, and see what happens.....
the best(and most expensive ;D) fix is a locator bar to keep the axle from moving laterally.  I saw one in the works at Rocky Road Outfitters.  It's been used on cars for over fifty years- used to be called a Panhard Rod.

I was thinking that as long as im going to the trouble of bushings and shocks and maybe a new steering setup that i might as well get the Calmini 5.5 shackle reverse installed while everything is disconnected.......

If you change out the z-link for cross-over style steering it'll help too!  Do a search on this forum for 300-400 series mercedes steering arms for pointers!
