Thorley headers (CA Smog), 2" exhaust, new egr valve

I can run the Zuk for a week and then the light comes on.  If I bypass the egr modulator by placing a straw between the p and q hose, p and q on the modulator, the light goes off.  I tried smog shops , etc but all I get is the aftermarket headers and exhaust do not have the right pressure for the light to stay off.  I cleaned the egr throttle plate and tried to clean the gunk from the hose passage that goes from the modulator to what looks like a sensor but no luck.  When cleaning I did notice a little ball inside the passage but I was told that could be to keep the pressure at a certain level because a smaller pipe\passage would colapse.

Any suggestions?  Does anyone else notice a small ball\BB in the passage from the modulator to the sensor in front?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

after many $ spent i simply removed the light bulb and now my check engine light is for ever off ..........this was my fix after talking to hawk Suzuki and many mechanics/junk yard dogs who have gone up against this same prob they told me if/when you need to pass deq just disconnect the battery for 1 hr then re hook it up then drive for 30 miles then hit the deq it worked for me and my 98 jx yes i cleaned that tube yes i changed the egr valve and all the vac hose and many other things this pain consumed me for along time even my wife put black tape over the light so she wouldn't have to hear me bitch about it my rig runs great better at 105000 miles then when i bought it i wouldnt recommend this to all but when you've done everything you can and it stays on for NO RESON its time to snuff its life id do the same to you if you were in a hospitable bed and nothin else would help you

I was going to give you shit about not using any periods, but then I realized you did.  And I respect the unconventional individuality of it.  So I'll shut my damned mouth and just.....applaud.

ROTFLMFAO

hawk is right, the pressure of the opened up system doesent allow the egr system to heat up to the proper temperature. this is a common problem for samauri 16v conversions especally. if you call brent at trail tough he has a jumper that plugs into the egr temp sensor that tricks the computer into thinking it is hot enough... it even makes it pass emissions i think.
hope it helps

No worries
