Title: 91 samurai NO SPARK!
Post by: Rotten_republic on May 08, 2008, 03:26:59 PM
hello, new sammi owner , actually trying to get this one going before i pay for it.

its a 91 sammi im geting it for $200 bucks. here is the thing,
there is no spark, it was doing the infamous starter click, i installed the relay to get it to turn, and there is no spark, i took the coil into autozone and they tested it for me and it came through as functional, they couldnt test the ignition module and i dont have the toold to do that sort of thing myself, what i was wondering if anyone knows of anything else that would keep it from geing a spark
it turns over just fine but wont fire up.

thanks for any answers, im dying to get this thing on the road and into the dirt!

And you're sure you're getting gas, right?  For sure it's no spark?

yea, i dropped some gas into the throttle body and still no go, i have a feeling it may be the ignition switch, its really loose and rattles around, my mother was driving it when it stopped and she said it would chugg out and die, and they would turn it over and it would run a while longer and then chugg out and die.  im really uninformed when it comes to cars. and i like the sammi because it looks like parts will be available for it for some time to come, even though the car is 17 years old

Probably a bad ECM.  It is very common for the capacitors on the circuit board to start leaking and eat up the circuit board and the copper traces.

Also check to make sure you have voltage at the coil.

No matter what, it sounds like a keeper for 200 bucks.  Tracking down the problem may take some work, but the fix is probably gonna be pretty damned cheap.

by pass the whole thing to find out if it's electrical.
You should only need the wire to the starter and the wires from the coil to get it to turn over
that's what we did on my race engine. remember to turn the ignition to the on position.
and for $200 that's a steal man wish I could find one with a title that cheap.

i was wondering if there was a way i could do that, could you send me alittle more detailed instructions?
   my email is charlesmonroe98|removethispart|@yahoo.
i really would appreciate that, the word from the previous owner is that they just dropped a new engine and tranny in the thing too, so once i get it going it should be a decent little runner.
one of the first mods i want to do is an spoa lift and some good tires. but i got to get it running first
