I drove a stock tracker with 33x12.5s. if converted to diesel, would it need to be regeared? how do you find the gearing with the diesels?
-
Do you have a manual or automatic transmission? If it's a manual and you decide you want lower gears you can just get the diffs from an automatic to bring you back in line.

yes, manual. thought a diesel with 33s it would be right on. think it would have enough power to turn 35s?

We have a 1.6l TD in our Kick with 32x10.50 Procomp All terrains and it does just fine... At about 65-70 it is pulling close to 3000rpm, but seems all right and get 30+ mpg. So with 33s you should be all right. As far as power, it had plenty not doggy. But since we have turned up the boost and added an intercooler and it pulls pretty well. The instant torque is great!

I think thats backwards. Most years the manual had 5.12 diff gear ratio, and the automatics had 4.63 or 4.30 or something like that. I have a manual, and have thought of putting an auto transmission in to effectively lower the driveline ratio.

why do you want to lower the ratio? because the diesel revs too high?

Yeah if you were pulling to many RPMs at HWY speeds you would want to look at going to maybe the 4.62s instead of your 5.12s. But with your 33s you should be all right. Oh and as far as having power to turn 35s.. You can put in the 1.9l TD and tune it and it will put out more than enough power to turn 35s.
Here is our set up:

Yea, I meant a lower ratio but higher gears. It's all in how you word it. :)
