Title: rear storage box? size questions...
Post by: mike5721947 on May 31, 2008, 07:16:58 PM
ok im wanting to tae my sidekick out without the top on but i dont want everything to be easy to steal, im wanting to build a box to sit in the back behind my rear seats and butt up to the rear door. (use the rear door as the door for the box) that will have it lockable. make it have a section that goes under the rear seat that makes it lock into the back (so someone cant just pull it out, but makes it easily removable if i slide it out the rear door)

my problem is i dont have my truck on hand to get the measurments for it (truck is in bc, im in alberta) wouldnt mind being able to take it back to bc and slide it in so i can go use it without having to worry about my stuff getting stolen.

ive got access to all types of tools, i do alot of woodworking and metalworking so a simple storage unit is nothing for me. just dont have the measurments.

rear seats locked back reclined (i use my rear seats and when they are verticle they suck to sit on) also want to be able to access the rear seat pull handle to fold the seat down (from INSIDE the box) width, length, height (to be flush with the rear door)

its a 1990 2 door JA sidekick with one peice rear bench seat.

OK, Here is what I come up with:
(I have a 1995 Tracker 2dr with bench seat, but it should be identical.)

With the seat reclined:
Width between seatbelt posts: 413/4"
Height to top of door: 171/2"
Depth at bottom: 10"
Depth at top of seat: 71/2"

With seat folded up:
413/4"w X 17"h X 251/2"d

(all dimensions are actual build dimensions leaving approx. 1/4" overall clearance)

Hope this info helps.
