Post by: real_red_wagon on October 01, 2004, 11:35:33 PM
Ok ok Lakeview motorsports has been very quietly been working on the Real Red Wagon. Were doing a lift very similar to whitfields, but not the same, hoping to have it done in time for zuwharrie heres a couple of teaser shots of the motherlode lift kit comming soon from Lakeview motorsports sitting on the Real Red Sammi's 35's I'm not going to run 35's but I could ;D. this morning I'm getting a brand new set of 31/10.50 MTR's off of a trade in at the dealership some fool left them on an s-10 when they traded it in mine now ;D I will go in to detail about this lift but time is of the esscence ;D(http://[IMG]http://www.eye-irritant.com/august2004/motherlode lift kit 006.jpg)

Awsome, Super clean work.  I now wish I had taken a little more time and cleaned prepped and painted.  Thanks for sharing and letting the cat out of the bag.

Which coils are you using?  Front / Rear

How are you solving the steering issue?

Hope to see you at Zuwharrie...  I should get in late Thursday and will leave early sunday.

I'm shopping for a beater 2dr 5spd 4wd now too...  I want to be able to drive it on the road and beat it / break it like I did my old Camo Zook on 33's.  A Rolling test bed.

Impressive! How much more work would it be to center the wheels in the wheel wells? Or does the wheel base just appear to be shorter?  Also did you guys fab up up that front  bumper? BTW nice bit of tail in that bottom pic ;)

Man... why not at least 33's? Looks good, though. Be sure to post some more pictures as you progress!

I wouldn't mind going 33's but the 31 MTR's were FREE ;D so I can't complain  the wheel base is a little shorter in the picture because I don't have the new rear arms in yet Hiem joints top and bottom 2.5" to 4.5" longer adjustable the front came straight down. we made the bumpers front and rear a while ago lots of trees hit in the meantime could use some paint I suppose. :)
Still working on the steering Whitfield probably going to figure it out tonight and test it tomorrow springs are ranger(rather than use cut lift springs we used the ford spring cup bolted and welded to the top of the arm)(http://www.eye-irritant.com/august2004/motherlode lift kit 008.jpg)
in the front xj front springs in the back crown vic shocks, shock mount moved up 4.5" in rear and homemade spacers

still need to finish the 5.38's in the real red sammi, still need to put bearings in the Law Dog 1week till Zuwharrie :o :o :o

Nice to see some one putting the Ranger spring to use.  What application was your spring from (Year / modle)?  Have you had a chace to test it for flex, rate, travel.  I'm very interested to see the rig on those springs in action.  Both springs are a little light for my 4 door but that was going to be my plan on the 2dr.  Interesting how you have used the Ranger spring mounts.  Is the upper spring mount even with where the stock Kick one would be or is it lower / higher?

I still see the CalMini Dropped Pitman arm as a quick easy solution for a lifted stock application (Even though they designed it for use on a Sammy running kick Power steering).    Hope to put this in place after I pay off the T-case gears.

Any pictures of the Rear?  I am interested to see how you have built it.  I'm amazed at how the stock stuff will move with just a slight mod to the Upper mount.  I am trying to extend my lowers 1" before Zuwharrie if time premits (Nose high / Pinion not oiling) .  Then after Zuwharrie I will go back and move the lower rear frame mount to up under the B-pillar (Forward one tube) and remake the longer rear arms as Mike Hagen has done.

With 2" my rear springs are doing the limbo now.  At 2.5" - 4" I'd need to relocate the upper rear spring mount too.

You're rig is killer.  I bet you can get more air, longer air, and higher air than hagen!   :P :P :P

Anyway, that looks tough as heck!

Keep up the good work.

They shoud be for the same year as the Ranger and BII was built on the same platform. Ditto for the larger versions of the truck and Bronco.

Wheelin with your doors is for the ladies ;D I take them off when I can.    Ranger, Bronco II, and Mazda Navajo are all the same from like 85?-93 or so.
Hey Whitfield I was reading your post on zuwahrrie "doing the flip" I'm thinking about making something similar to that drag link you said you wouldn't put on your truck, but I'm going to make it all out of one piece as opposed to a welded puzzle like that one. This guy that I work with has a tahoe with a 6" store bought lift kit 3" body lift and 37" MTR's his kit came with a piece very similar seems to work well for him

My jig saw puzzel steering is still inplace and would work better with an extra idler or two.  The lower arm moves back and forth on the steering joints sort of like a Sammy Z-link is known to do.  But with the IFS floating tierods this will change the alignment slightly.  On the road it is not noticable but climbing rocks I keep having guys tell me I broke the steering box off of the frame.  All the out of sinc steering movement makes it look that way.  I have often considered just adding my spare idler arm to the middle of the suppot between the dropped front a-arm mounts.  This would prevent this extra movement and be a trail worthy band-aid fix.

This was a 2am night before the event last ditch effort.  But it's working.

The center plate is single the 2 outers are actually 4 outers  If I would not have trimmed the steering and idler holes off of the lower rod, I could have configured a twin lower idler set up.   I still feel like the Calmini dropped pitman arm is gonna be the way to go, and then flip the tie rods if need be.

EEek!   :o    I'm sure you will get it squared away.  Mine will see a trip to the park enterance store or two over the weekend but that's the extent of it.  Store is about 3 -4 miles and goes thru some nice paved twisties, and has a 55 mph stright right before the store.  Nice test out and feel of teh on road handeling.  SO are you gonna drive it from Ny. to Nc. & back or have you arranged a trailer.

well its 12:30am wed/ thursday finally finished the real red wagon WOW! :o this thing is tall and it feels like it. the pinion angle on the rear end is wrong so I'll have to fix that when I get back I get some vibration :-/ the camber is OK but not perfect I'll fix that when I get back as well. right now it looks as though all three ZUKS from LMS are going to Zuwahrie ;D were still ironing out the details of a trailer and a doly but it should happen ;)
I will post pics in the daytime of the finished Real Red Wagon for those of you not going to Zuwaharrie everyone else see you there ;D ;D ;D
