I am looking to drastically simplify the engine setup of my '88 samurai. If possible, Id like to go to no ECM control - no idle up valves, no O2 sensors or AFR valves, manual (or no?) choke, etc etc. Any gauges run by the ECU (like the tach or coolant gauge) would / could be replaced with aftermarket. Just a basic engine and carb, with the engine idling at around 1200 RPM to cover the accessories (AC doesn't really work now anyways, and Id likely just take it off completely).

If you're careful in removing your Samurai A/C system, I'd buy that off of you. As far as simple carburation goes, the Weber 32/36 DGV downdraft is your best bet. Several of our Aftermarket vendors sell a kit that'll bolt on to your manifold. As for guages and such, they are all traditional and DO NOT go through the ECM. So, all of your guages and idiot lights (except the sensor/check engine light) will work if you leave the appropriate connections.

That is great that I won't need all the aftermarket gauges, heh.
So a carb like this?

That would be the one. I'd ask, though that you look at our home page and support one of the vendors that advertise on this site. They are all listed on the right hand side of the home page.
By the way, we we're talking about flooding / coughing / sputtering Webers in a previous thread. If you look at the following picture in the upper right hand corner you'll see an 1/4NPT pipe elbow, this is the newer style Webers that have the float bowl vented there. That goes to your charcoal cannister. No stalling problems...

Hope this helps, Eric

Thanks! I think I might get the one from Low-Range Offroad.
However, I have a question: Do all of these carbs come pre-jetted? At the very least, do they include proper jets for the samurai 1.3 that I would then have to adjust on my own? I notice few companies advertise them as "pre-jetted," but many more say they they are purely bolt-on, so I am not sure.
And, with some of the writeups like on Acks FAQ, I am pretty confident Ill be happy with this carb, and not worried about tuning it myself.
