Title: 87 samurai lift and axles
Post by: derteracing on July 01, 2008, 06:55:09 PM
I know this is just another topic about some guy that doesnt know a thing about samurais or what he does with the money he sinks in to them. Besides the fact I need some help. I have a 1987 samurai that is relativly stock besides a 2 inch shackle drop. Ive talked myself into doing yj springs or what some would call wrangler springs. What would be a relativley inexpensive kit that is good quality? Next question is where can i get a nice rebuilt, new, or not warn to bad set of wrangler or yj springs(All Four)? If anyone has these and wants to sell ill be the one to buy! On top of alll that im getting toyota front and rear axles. So I would like to know what is a inexpensive good quality kit to install yota axles on yj springs (and what extra parts they dont let me know that i need such ass driveline spaers and etc.)? If anyone has an answer to any of my questions or has advice, Please and thank you!

Sky has a good YJ kit, and for the yota axles they have a conversion kit for the front.
And they have a custom rear axles thats is a yota axles off set like a sami.

Are you wanting to drive this on the road? like a DD or something of that sort.
Whats your terrain of choice?  Mud, sand, rocks?

Take a look at my build up on my 88 sami, i have done pretty much the same stuff you are talking about wanting to do.

yeah its going to be a daily driver until i get out of school. Is there a kit i need for the rear axle or does it all bolt up nicely? Do i need new drive shafts? driveshaft spacers? Steering? I knwo you dont have much speed left after you do this kit and but 31 or 33 on it but what kind of engine mods do they  have besides an engine swap.

Ive been watching your build. i want to do something like yours. and my choice of terrain is desert like dirt, sand and rock.

I consider a 44" tire pretty big and a 33 sitting next to one, looks might small.
So i guess i like small tires too  ;D

It's not the size of your tire that counts , it how you use it  ;D

On topic a little bit, look at Craigslist or a local 4x4 forum for a set of YJ springs.  You can usually find them from people who have put lift springs on pretty cheap.

Or your local 4x shop.
