Im new here and also new to Suzuki’s
I recently purchased a 89 2 door sidekick . 1.6 , 8v . i see alot of you are off road folks and i to love that aspect . but i have a 1970 Scout 800 i built for that so the suzuki will be for mostly pavment and simply mountian road driving .
I have a couple questions that maybe you all would be so kind to answer
First , does anyone know where I can buy these rims . I see them in a lot of the retailer adds but cant seem to locate any .
I would have purchased these as the were 90 bucks for the set but they were the wrong bolt pattern and center hole was to small

the other question i have is about the auto trany .
will a 4 speed from a later model bolt to my 8v 1.6 ?.
I currently have a 3 speed and was thinking that maybe going to a 4
What would be the complications to doing this swap
Right now im pulling a sound 30mpg and I was thinking that maybe the over drive on the 4 would bump her up a little more
-
If you are getting a true 30 I would be happy with that. I get about 24-25 with my manual with the 29" Toyo MTR's and the 16v.
-
yep solid 30 . sometimes 34 if i hold at 55 . thats on the open road though . around town and in trafic its 25 -28

Don't change a thing.

I agree with beercheck.
I've got a '95 3 speed auto and I get around 25 mpg highway.
Of course, I have 16 valves, 235/75 mud tires, and a 1.5" lift. I don't complain. ::)
But 30 mpg is pretty damn good for a 19 year old 4-banger!
-
yep that looks just like mine , im currently running P205/75R 15's on stock rims .
did doing the lift reduce your mileage any ?.
never really cared for the color white . so i been doing some crude paint shop work
here is what im thinking about
what she looks like now . as you can see i have to do something about these rims . she definatly needs some bling i think

I think Les Schwab carries those wheels.
-
they carry the ones i have paintshopped in, but not the ones in the top photo . well at least the Ontario Or or nampa idaho stores
-
I actually have the wheels you show on the photo chop. Nice looking, but a pain to clean. I picked up a 5th at Discount Tire for pretty cheap.
Can't say I'm a fan of the gold paint on the bottom half. But if you like it, go for it. :)

To tell you the truth, my mileage stayed the same after the lift.
A pleasant surprise for me was that after I put the bigger tires on my mileage improved!
With the 3 speed tranny, the engine runs at about 300 rpm lower at 65 mph. That must be it. ???

Kidding me? Consider yourself lucky to get a white one. Especially in that condition. When I was searching for one I came across a lot of pink ones, and other oddly bright colors. :(
White doesn't show dirt as bad.
As for the gold; gold is the hardest color to match when repairing damage.
Hey, just my 2¢.
Paint it the way you like it. That's what it's all about. Have fun. :)

Thanks for the replies folks it is appreciated
thats why i was thinking about bumping up to a 4 speed tranny . this should drop the top end RPMs at cruse and thus improve mileage even more .

wouldf that be over the net ? i looked at discount tire . but maybe i just didnt look in the right place . would you have a link ?
I had a set of these rims a few years back on my IH . really liked them .
trick i found was to polish them and then put on a couple heavy coats of acrilic wax . this made them much easier to keep clean .
Gold Paint ????? :o
NO , NO gold paint . must be a monitor thing or something . the color under the doors is a light tan .
i actually got the idea off a Tahoe that I saw . It what black on white with tan lower panels looked real sharp .
No offence meant to those here who like white , I hear ya , it doesn’t show the dirt really as bad .
For me though I just never have been partial to it
But again no gold . LMAO

Possible, but doubtful. Around town may improve, but hwy probly wouldn't. You're at about the peak that I've ever heard of these things getting with normal driving. '96 seems to have been the sweet spot for mileage; I and a few others on this board with '96s (1.6, 5-sp) would typically get 30mpg day in and day out, having to seriously bust a nut to get it down to 28mpg. With the 1-2mpg improvement you MIGHT see, it'd take years to offset the expense and effort of the swap.
But, if you want the stick for any reason other than MPG improvement, absolutely go for it. But keep in mind you'll probably have to change out your gears, too. The autos usually have a steeper ratio, so putting in the stick without changing the gears may drop your RPMs at cruising speed clean out of the power band, pretty much making your fancy new top gear completely unusable.

They look like the rims fitted to the UK Wideboy and Fatboy models. I have a set of 10x15s on my SJ410, they have Mangel centre caps.
33 x12.5 MT compared to the low profile Fatboy tyre:

i was thinking of the later autos with a 4 speed trany . well not really a 4 spead but a 3 with an overdrive

you know where i could find a set ? in say 15X6 ?

Nope, I just went into the show room and asked about them. They had a catalog and the sales guy recognized them immediately and we looked them up. They accidentally ordered the 5 on 4.5 instead of 5 on 5.5 the first time, but they got it right the second time. Great service. :)

That may be it. More then likely the color difference is because I'm partially color blind. :D

I've no idea where you could get them. You could try emailing Mangel and ask them if they still make them and the address of a local stockist. I've only seen them in 15x8 and 15x10.

would you know what the style was called ?

Pepatt:
Your milaege probably improved because your speedometer was off after the larger tires. ;D
I get about 26mpg with my 235's on a 92 kick with power steering. Maybe if I disconnected my power steering I could get 28? :P
