hey guys,
I found a 87 samurai for sale in a local paper, I was thinking of buying it for spare parts, the owner said he was rolling and tried to put it in 4 wheel drive and something locked up, does anyone have a idea what could be broken, weak link, ect. If its nothing major i may put it back on the road for my wife. The engine runs like a top, no smoke. ???

I have heard that the t-case can get locked up if you shift while moving. Someone told me it could be unlocked with a screwdriver, presumably pulling the shifter out. Maybe someone will chime in who can be more helpful.

hey if that screwdriver works it sure would be nice.

I have had it lock up in neutral and unable to shift out, not lock up completely. The screwdriver trick is you take the shifter out. Then when you look down you will see the two bars that are used to shift into 4x4 mode and low range. You can then use a screw driver to line everything back up and put the shifter back in.
A new shift sheet fixes this problem. You can go with either brass one or just a new poly one. If the transmission is loose when shifting give Hawk Suzuki a call and they sell a new shifter for the transmission as well.
