BLUF/Cliffs: I've got an 87 Samurai that I want to get running again and need some help to do it - willing to pay cash money for said help.
Useful info:
Samurai(totally stock) was running a couple of years ago and then couldn't get motor to rev over 2500 rpm. Pulled motor, got used one replaced all gaskets etc. Motor needs to go back in and everything hooked up and hopefully crank back up! Was going to get right back to it when I pulled it and just didn't happen, failed to document well, and having another Samurai around to compare would help a lot in that process, and someone who has been in the engine bay less than a year ago also helpful. Have engine lift and tools and better than average mechanical skills - replaced 3 engines in my Subaru RX and turbo'd an Impreza RS.
Long eyeglazing part of the post:
Bought this 87 Samurai off of CL for $500 and it ran but rough. Put a new exhaust and windshield and tires and rear seat belts and got it running pretty well, and even got it to pass Fairfax emissions - the day after it passed the engine lost all power, wouldn't go over 2500 rpm. Got a newly rebuilt stock carb, checked compression, etc. Got a used motor to replace the original (though when I pulled it I think I found the problem, alternator bracket loose and way out of geometry, think it just dragged it down. But what's done is done.)
So anyway haven't been able to get the time or motivation to get back in there to get the engine in - tried a couple months back and found I had just forgotten too much to recreate it. The boss says send it to crusher but its a good little truck and if I can get it running it will be a lot better gas mileage than the Hemi...if its running and not just taking space in the garage she'll be happy.
So anyone in the Northern Virginia area with a Samurai and experience working on it wants to help put a motor back in and rescue a good Samurai from a bad fate and make some money and/or some beer
