Post by: cmize on July 22, 2008, 03:14:38 PM
...........please...  no idea what im doing just bought a samurai for trail riding.  was toyota all the way but carnage scares me, so i bought a 87 i think 4:10 gears toyota axles 33inch tires full roll cage beat all to hell suzuki.  it runs great just beat up.  but no carnage will take place on my yota.  what do i have i rode some trails and yes i'm very new to this but it did awsome.  at the locall park it is winning the class b.   first question is what seats will fit because these suck.  likke i asked what do i have and what should i do.  any basic info would be appreciated thanks and sorry to drag on.

You need some new seats huh?  There are a couple ways to go.  A lot of people modify Neon and Tracker seats to put in the Sammy.  I actually use plastic Dragster seats from Summit Racing.  While not quite as comfy after I drilled a whole in the bottom I don't have to worry about leaving them out in the rain.

If you don't mind a little welding you can modify just about any seats to fit from the junk hard.

Do you know if there are lower transfer case gears in it?
If not that would be a really really good thing to look into.

Mazda Miata seats fit with some tweaking....and they have speakers in the head rests!

dont know about the trans case but knowing the person who had it it probably does.  like i said i was planning on moding my tacoma until i fount this toy.  what about welding the rears is it suggested?  will probably by towing with a tow bar for a while  is there anything u can tell me from the pics  li think its an 87 model

My Samurai came with Pontiac Grand Am seats out of about a '88 or so and you talk about comfort! They are a little tight on the sides and they don't tilt forward well so maybe they came out of a cutlass or something with 4 doors. But cheap and super comfortable!

welcome!
As far as seats go it depends on what you plan to do i use those sharp leather buckets from checker auto for 120 a piece they are comfy and work well but thats in my daily driver in my buggie its all bussiness i use the jegs poly plastic seats with the holes drilled in them and five point harnesses i can hose the tub out and leave it out in the rain but they are not as soft but they protect in a high impact rollover you get bruised but dont break your neck and back ;)

I prefer buying a mini-spool over welding the rear end.  But if your pulling it behind a vehicle without a trailer I wouldn't recommend doing either.  A solid rear axle while pulling it with a tow bar is just asking for problems.
