Title: 1.3L exhaust donut dont go-on-it
Post by: vachot on July 27, 2008, 07:11:48 AM
What is the trick to get a new exhaust donut on an exhaust manifold for one of these things (Samurai)?
The donut that came with my gasket set was too small by just a tad, but still too small to go on the end of the manifold. I have two other manifolds; both of those are the same....nipple too big for the donut. I tried to tap it on...no good, started to crumble. Thought I must have gotten a bad donut in my gasket set so I bought another donut over the counter...same deal.....just a tad too small to go on the end of the manifold. My guess is that maybe engine heat will expand the donut to allow it to slip fully onto the manifold outlet.
So, what's the the problem hear? Wrong part? Wrong technique?

Well, it looks like a donut, kinda. There was one on it when I removed the exhaust manifold and there was a "donut" on each of the two other manifolds I looked at for reference. Those donut gaskets were snuggly fitted to the exhaust nipple but came off with a little help.

i ran into that same problem. the donut that came in a head gasket set was too small.
i reused my old one and wondered if it was just my model. thought mabe it fit a sammy exhaust.

I used one from hawk suzuki. It was stout and a great fit.

OEM fits great.  Avoid the aftermarker crappola.
