Title: New Member,here
Post by: DameApril on September 26, 2004, 07:52:22 PM
Hi,
I have just joined this forum.Actually,I was directed here by lilred  :D. Hi,red!
We are new to the zuk world.I now have a 1989 Sidekick.
Can anyone tell me where I can get hold of a cross reference chart for parts for this kick? I know a lot of parts will cross over, but I don't know which ones.I've looked, but I can't find a cross reference.
I'm having EGR valve probs,I think. The kick has a newly rebuilt head, new plugs and wires, new pcv valve and new fuel filter.
It starts just fine.Once it warms up,it wants to surge. It'll idle up and down. On-road,it'll start acting like it wants to cut out.I can 'feather' the pedal,a bit,and it'll pick up and go on,til it does it,again.I have to kinda coax it along. It does smoke (bluish-white) on startup, and will smoke a bit on-road. Off-road,it does good, except for trying to run away with itself, have to hold it back,at times.Fuel economy SUX, Big time! It is using more gas than my Grand Cherokee Limited.
When running it,flat out,she does move on,without any problems. My grandkids love riding in it out in the yard when I'm cutting donuts and being crazy with it  ::).
Anybody got any ideas on EGR (or not) and cross reference?
Thanks a lot and glad to be here  :D.
                                                                 April

Welcome April! I read some of your posts on the Zookpower Board last night about lifts; you can find all the information you need on that subject here. If nobody here can help you with engine problem you can also check out http://www.zuwharrie.com/. They have some awesome Tech people on there too.

The surging and high idle is typical
of the 89'  I don't know if the EGR
would/could cause the drivability
problem you have.

Fuel economy should be in the 20s
if not, air and coolant sensors, and
maybe a bad or leaking fuel injector.

You didn't mention if you had stock
size or larger tires, a lift or any other
configuration info, but larger tires can
seriously sap power and fuel to go at
normal freeway speeds, normal for a
SideKick is around 60-70 Highway MPH

Yes you can go faster, but so does the gas

Ohh ya,  Welcome to the board, Hi My name
is Wild, and I'm a Zookaholic

Hi guys,
I'd like to say a big thank you  :D for the warm welcome(s) from Zig,Tn_Tracker and Wild.
Thanx for all the info, too. I think I'm gonna like it here  ;D.
I am running pure stock, right now.I have 225x15x5.5 tires on the kick, right now. Think I'm gonna run pretty much stock, for a while,at least, til I get to really know my kick.
As for fuel consumption,a full tank of gas is gone, like,QUICK! Gotta figure out the prob, that's for sure.

Welcome!

Plug gap had an effect on my idle speed but didn't cause any surge problems.

Any vacuum leaks?
All vacuum lines connected correctly?
Timing correct?
Good seal on the intake manifold gasket?
Good seal on the head gasket?  No foaming in oil?

Just some thoughts.

I'm sorry for your loss, life can be so fragile
at times, I think I can speak for most of the
members here, we all try to enjoy our sport
and live our lives as full as we can, or can
afford to.
