Title: TIMING HELP!!!
Post by: Bandit02 on August 04, 2008, 05:23:02 PM
hey guys. I finally fixed my busted keyway in my crank, and got everything back together today. I've got my tracker (16 valve) timed exactly as my repair manual says to, but it just wont run. I've got good spark, plenty of fuel and fuel pressure, but it just wont run. I can turn on it and it will try to hit once or twice, sometimes kicking back after you let off the key. It acts like it's out of time ALOT, but I know it's set EXACTLY as per directions in haynes...... any help or advice on what's wrong?   ???

I wouldn't trust Haynes.

This won't be helpful with your current situation, but at some point a Hayne's translator may come in handy:

(Sorry, it's in British.)

if im correct haynes and chilton both tell you that the dizzy turns clockwise but it turns counter check it out pull the cap and crank the key then set it 1342 from the top of the dizzy                then set the plugs like this   from the front of the rig   1234 front to back
                                                                                                                 1
                                                                                                             3      2
                                                                                                                 4
then set the timing mark on the crank at 8 deg before the 0
then set your cam with the "e" mark straight down the "e" is on the outer ring and also hase the keyway so you know, im an expert at this i had a world of trouble with mine
