I'm wanting to put a tach in my 86 samuri but I can't find anything on what the redline is on my 1.3 engine.
-
stock tach is 6500
-
Thanks for the help
-
Got my tach in. Notice that my motor is hard to wind it out to redline I only get to 5000.is this normal.does anyones make it to redline?
-
i assumed "redline" was a theoretical rpm limit.
wind it up past that and things could scatter.
i will run |removethispart|@4000 rpm when climbing hills, slightly over sometimes when running the gears, but thats about it.
little motors have to be run up in order to keep up w/the big boys, but not because they like it.
just a thought.
mabe.

when im drivng on the street my engine never sees anything less than 4000, primarily because of my gearing though.
-
When you run down the road at what rpm do you shift at
-
3000 to 3500 is my shift point if I'm just cursing, but it can go up from there....
Gears and tires really wiped out my high speed....
but thats they way i like it ;D

It depends on my load & road conditions.
-
normal conditions i shift at 3500 to 4000, if im toying off i hold it alot longer. i cruise at around 4300 in forth at 60 on the freeway.

Cool I'm running and shifting bout right then.now all I need to do is adjust my valves so that ticking noise it has will quit. My dad never had it done when he had it
-
When adjusting valves, it is sometimes good not to get rid of the tick completely. When you here ticking, you know the valves are not to tight. Over tightening can cause burnt valves. Remember, a little ticking doesn't hurt.
-
Ok didn't know that about this engine. Thanks
-
Just adjust the valves to spec and don't worry whether they tick or not. If they are adjusted correctly, they won't be too tight and burn valves.
