Title: Xfer case rebuild
Post by: bentparts on August 11, 2008, 03:47:35 AM
Anyone know a good place to buy a rebuild kit, or the bearings, seals etc for a Trackick transfer case ? I don't want to go to the dealer yet, I have an aversion to being anal raped. Thanks!

I'll go with the standard "Give Hawk Suzuki a call" answer.  :)

Thanks Drone, I did call the "regulars" but one of the bearings I want, namely the output shaft needle bearing, seems to be a dealer only item. Time to get out the vaseline.

I wne to a locak machine supply shop (supplies parts to local factories) called Motion Industries. All they need is an old bearing with the #'s still on it and they pulled me one off the shelf for a fraction of the dealer price.

Don't forget regular part's stores...

AND...

I've found dealers to be less expensive than parts stores / aftermarket vendors sometimes. Yes - really - it's true. Anything over a few $$$ is worth the extra phone call to me.

;) Thanks guys, there is a bearing supply house not far from me. I'll take the old one there and see if they can match it up.

I'm pretty good at digging up old/dead threads.....but I know bentparts is active. I've been searching thru the various forums with little luck.... Currently I'm in a similar situation and need the "needle" bearing for the front output shaft. I do plan to try a local bearing place, but want to open up other options if possible.

What results did you have way back when?

Also if anyone knows the part numbers for these roller bearings, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm hoping to be back on the trail by this weekend and my case is exploded on my bench. :(

I nuked my rear needle bearing on the way to Moab last year, and my
truck puked T-case juice the whole week because the seal went with it.

After I pulled the bearing shell, (all the needles were in the bottom of
the case) I looked it over good for any identifying numbers, no such
luck, so I actually have another bearing in a front housing that I'm
going to rob for the new rear.

The only other option would be to take a good bearing to a shop to have
it measured for a replacement.

BTW: to all Track/Kick owners, the steel rail that runs down the side of the
T-case is what carries lube to the rear bearing, low/poor quality T-case
juice and lifted suspension will cause the bearing to get sloppy and you
will get the dreaded driveline buzz

I wandered what that was for....I kinda gathered it was used for oiling, it appears my "rear" needle bearing is OK. But did break the chain and the front bearing is gone.

_________

After more data collection this is what "I" have found out.....a parts diagram I dug up online w/ suzuki part numbers:

The suzuki number (that I need) shown is # 09263-40006
The bearing measures: 40x47x30mm   (shaft x OD x depth)

I dug up some chinese company named NBB-bearing that makes this size, part # HK4030. But unfortunately I cant find a distributor and my local bearing shop didn't have any listing/cross reference in what they carried to match this size. SO I broke down and called trail tough and they had a new one on the shelf for ~ $37, which is fair. Now lets hope I see it by the weekend.

For sake of information and if someone has  sourced this part from other then OEM, I would be interested to hear.

I still haven't rebuilt mine, just been too involved with other stuff. I have decided to just pull the Calmini low range gears out of the noisy case and put them in my good original tcase with only 60k on it. Of course it's still sitting on the bench waiting for me to get to it. Why do today what you can put off till tommorow?

I got those bearings from hawk and replaced it myself.  It was very difficult to remove it and I had to make a tool to install it. if you want details let me know. Its kind of a bad memory!

A bit late to the party, but, if you still need the bearing, try Transparts Warehouse (http://www.transpartswarehouse.com) - if you don't see what you need, drop them a line or give them a call,

Yeah, better late than never  ;D I will be starting my tcase rebuild, or parts swap if you will, now that I've got my AC fixed and the solar panel permantly mounted on the camper. Being the first time I've dismantled one I'm sure I'll be asking more questions.
