so i imagine that you all have one or the other and i would like to order one or the other tonight,, so with them being about the same price and hp+,, i thought id ask for the final say on which one i get.

Are Calmini's life time gar,,on,,,teeeeed? I think I have the biggest K&N they make on mine. Its about a 6-7" dia cyl thats about a foot long at least. HUGE improvement over my 1.3 airfilter with a snorkle.

buy the calmini and do a test for us. ;D

thanks all,, sorry but i dont think that ill be doing any tests with the Calmini one.... im sure that it is a fine product, but dangnabit i think ill go for the K&N.
now my question is .... where should i buy this from?

Buy an elcheapo, cotton knock off and die it what ever color you want, they all do the same thing just as well.
Oh and incase anybody didn't get it yet.
We're talking about AIR FILTERS here, no messing around. Screw up once with a oiled cotton air filter and your motor will never be the same.

The way I look at it is yeah if its a daily driver, sure get the K&N but when the filter flows more air, it also flows more dust and dirt. So if your using it offroad, I would suggest you keep a close eye on it. I've got a ac delco filter in there and it does the job. ;)

There is no doubt that when used properly, the k&n filters are great. I used one for 7 years on my 71 bronco and I was always impressed with it. I used it a lot off-road and never had any problems with dust and dirt getting through it, I think that is why they use the oil. But can you actually see a difference in performance with the K&N in these little motors? I really don't know, but if anyone has used one, I would be interested in knowing. Although performance is not the only reason to use one, I guess if I lived on a dirt road or did a lot of off-roading in dunes I would get a K&N just becuase it filters better.

Ihave to agree with speedracer that a stock air filter is going to clean the air better than a K&N because with more flow means larger pores for the air to go through ( and dirt ) auto mfgs probably spend a lot of money tuning the air flow to maximize engine performance(not just HP)
if you do it you may increase your HP but you will lose something else wether it's filteration or economy or whatever just my .02

this is from the dirt bike world now and since me and my friend Pete are known for piloting our bikes like submarines paper filters good aftermarket better foam double density really good for dirt and mud and this is CAI not drop in but keep in mind no filter will stop a flood ......SNORKEL if you go deep

Oil'd filters work good. Just make sure when you service them that it's done properly.
I witnessed a motors demise due to a poorly maintained oil-based filter. (too much dust, not enough oil)

I agree, they have to be maintained properly. This is why I'm sticking with just the regular filter. It is worth a $15 investment every 6 months or so just to pick up a new filter and pop it in. No soaking and washing, drying, oiling, drying, reoiling, drying again and then you can use it.

yup and cheap paper flows nearly as good as k&n and cleans the air better ...
so why drop coin on anything else?
I would expect some rice boxes with dinky filters to get an improvement with a more "open" filter ... Funny thing is my tracker has a bigger filter than my 6.0l chevy!
