Title: sas into 90 sidekick what axles to use?
Post by: michigantracker on August 14, 2008, 05:02:05 PM
I am going to do a solid axle swap into my sidekick. I can get any axle i want so i want to talk to someone that has done this before. The toyota axles are close to stock widh but how many parts do you break with the stock motor? I plan on upgrading to a 4.3 in the future but i am not sure if they will hold up? Should i use a dana 44/ dana 60 combo? Or go with full size chevy 10 bolts? The only thing i am looking at is the avalibility of parts for the american axles. Thanks

More details...
2/4door
Stick / Auto
Final tire size
Your driving style
Conditions vehicle will be driven in
What's your breakage tolerance?

Normally I'd recommend Toyota, as they're easier to adapt. But, if you're going with a 4.3, you may want to consider a Dana 60. It's stronger than a beefed up yota, and you have room to grow.

Why a 4.3? You're going to add a lot of weight up front & raise your CG.

If you're thinking 35", and wheeling hard... you'll want upgraded Toy axles. You can build Toy axles to be as strong as Dana 60, but it'll cost you 2x as much and you'll be maxed out. Stock Dana 60 will be cheaper, and you can always upgrade. And, Dana will give you much better turning rad. If you were a mild wheeler with 33", I'd say toy.

I'm in Michigan also.  It's almost a must to have a snorkle to make it out alive.

What did you get the 9" out of?
