Title: 1.6 8V Head
Post by: jstrong89 on August 15, 2008, 09:52:50 AM
I just found out that my head is cracked and will be taking it to my local machine shop this weekend.  Has anyone had experience with a ported+polished head, will I see any decent gains or am I just wasting my time?

You're not likely to see any really noticable gain but if the head is being rebuilt anyway you may as well get it done.

If you added a cam and a 2" exhaust you should see some gains with or without the porting.
I would just have it port matched to the gaskets and clean up the rough casting surface, don't
polish the ports, not much gain in that except the cost.

Good Luck

If you're talking about a 8V 1.3L (and not 1.6), the big restriction will be the carb.

I just ordered a Calmini cam and the head is out being pressure tested right now.  I think I will port match the intake and head myself.  Thank you for the advise as I hat wasting $$$.  I got a little bored while the car was down and welded some race seats onto the factory sliders, it turned out nice.  I have a picture but it was too large to download.
