Ok, truck is a 1990 Suzuki sidekick with an 8V 1.3L. its got 302,000km, had slight oil leak and consumption, but recently has slowed with both... (yes it has oil)
truck randomly decides to bog when leaving from a stop, instant, can get maybe 1500rpm out of it before it starts bogging, everything from 1/4 throttle and up is useless, isn't driveable at all when this happens, also has done it on the highway, was slowing down for a construction site and started to bog. wouldn't pick back up.
strangely enough if the truck is turned off then restarted right after eachother it runs fine. its only started doing this over the last 2 weeks. (truck was parked for 6 months beforehand.)
going to throw new plugs in it anyway soon, wondering if it could be the cat plugging up or fuel related...
if i have to it'll be going into a local shop for some diagnostics, but if i can fix it beforehand i will. anything to keep from paying a mech...

how's the fuel filter??

dont know. might see how expensive it is and change it just incase, but wouldnt it be all the time if its the fuel filter? truck still revs to the moon the rest of the time.

probably worth a new fuel filter, esp. if unsure when it was last changed.
mabe check operation of the vacuum advance pot on the distributor for smooth function.
odd that it doesn't happen all the time.....

dirt moves around the the filter . if your not sure when it was last changed, change it for sure

I had the same thing happen to me and a lot of times it just needs a good solid tune up. I changed the PCV valve, spark plugs, cap and rotor, air filter, fuel filter and tested the spark plug wires for resistance, after that it ran fine and these are things that should be done every 30k miles or so anyways. If that doesn't get it then you may want to consider bad gas if it has been sitting, check the compression (it has 300k miles) and I have heard of the EGR valve getting clogged and creating a condition similar to yours.

I had a fuel filter do just that. Most of the time it would just drop off at cruise, and then after pulling over and stopping/starting would run fine for another hundred miles. Finally after changing everything else out, changed the fuel filter, and the problem went away. I couldn't blow through the old filter with a hundred lbs. air, but fuel was getting through enough to run most of the time. It didn't like fast starts, or heavy acceration (passing).
Not that you don't need a tune-up, but for time/money, I'd change the filter first.

defiantly change the fuel filter i was having a durability problem with mine took it to my mechanic he looked mine was plugged and could bow through it. Now the real kicker was it was so plugged it cause stress and Resistance on the fuel pump and sending unit it melted the power wire at the sending unit.

I have a 1990 Samurai with a 1.3L EFI and am dealing with a very similar problem (about the last two months).
I originally thought it was my fuel filter (not that the filter is not your problem) but continue to look for the problem.
These are the items I have changed,
1. Spark Plugs
2. Plug Wires
3. Cap and Rotor
4. Fuel Filter
5. Checked Fuel Tank For Debris
6. Checked Fuel Pressure (operating at 27-28 LBS)
7. Checked Timing (10 Degrees)
8. Checked For Loose Grounds (found one broke and repaired, no difference)
9. Added Fuel Dryer Twice
10. Checked For Vacuum Leaks
11. Had The TPS checked (OK)
12. Repaired The Exhaust Leak (thought it might be playing games with the 02 sensor)
If you find your problem, please post so I can try your fix.

sucks that my next day off is 5 days from now... might see if the shop around the corner can throw a filter in it for me for cheap. we deal with the shop alot with our 2 delivery trucks (ones a ford, the other is a shit dodge, so they are always in the shop getting fixed)
dont know how the townhouse commitee would take me changing it in the parking stall infront of the house... they dont even let you change a flat tire without a fuss.

Changing the filter takes 2 vice grips, (i think a 12mm), and 5 min. It's just in front of the pass rear tire on the inside of the frame. Take a peek... you'll see how easy it is.

might ohm your coil- it could be weak and the fire is going outunder load.....

picked up a fuel filter for it (found out theres different ones for each year) auto parts store ordered the wrong year one, thankfully when i went in to pick it up they had the right one in stock.
going to try it first. whats weird is if its the computer wouldnt it throw a code? or run like crap all the time...
drove it to work today and around on a couple deliverys (shop truck was out already on another delivery) ran great...

Is that is spec? it sounds quite low.
