I have an 02 tracker ZR2 2.0L auto 4x4 and would like to know about the best engine enhancing mods.
I have read a lot of various stuff on these forums and can pretty much handle the exhaust end but what can be done to the intake, injectors, valves, cams and ignition.
I had thought about a turbo kit but thats not really for me and nitous  is out also I just want good solid performance increase, nothing to exotic.
The engine itself has just topped over 29000 miles.

Very, very limited. Really, 130hp is pretty reasonable. Were you upgrading from, say, a '96 Tracker, you'd be pleased as peaches with what you've got. I'm skeptical of any of the half-way "cold air induction" type deals with cone filters sucking warm underhood air versus your stock airbox sucking cooler fender air, and I haven't heard of anyone experimenting with bigger injectors up to this point. For measurable improvement, you'll be lucky to get more from anything other than exhaust work.
That said, and I know it doesn't answer your question exactly, but if you stumble on a wrecked V6 Tracker or GV.....seriously consider it. Mileage drops, but I've heard overall satisfaction goes through the roof.

didn't our illustrious leader (ebewley) put a v-6 in his???

It's hard to get much power out of modern engines without being exotic. Most manufacturers already have well-tuned engines. You can do the typical Intake / Exhaust / Header / High-Flow cat swap, but you're MAYBE gaining 10HP? Not a wise way of spending that kinda cash ($400-$500?).
Your only real options are the above, and engine swap (v6) or turbo. Turbo will give you a good 30% increase, but it'll cost you $1000-$1500 to get there & you'll have to use premium gas.

Thanks.
yeah my 2.0L runs OK but like most people I want a little bit more and it is kind of flat up to about 3200rpm's then it just wakes up and goes.
I think the auto is whats killing the performance the most.
I would easily consider a V6 so I guess I need to keep a watch out for a good donor.

The V6 in the SWB trucks make a huge, HUGE difference. My truck was originally a 5-speed (otherwise exactly like yours), but even switching it to automatic didn't diminish the pep delivered by the V6 enough for me to even care what I'm missing. Plus, it all looks/performs factory and passes smog tests with no worries whatsoever. Headache-free. Seriously, I don't think I could be happier except for the dearth of upgrade options for the XL-7 rear end, but there's no reason why you have to go that route.

The trick is finding a reasonably priced V6 :'(

I had thought of the 4.3L and seeing if that could be done on mine but after thinking about it a lot I feel sticking to all suzuki is the easiest/best route.
I have also considered getting a 2.5L (J2) and swapping both engines around so my ZR2 has the slightly bigger V6 engine and then I could just sell the 4 door or drive it (either way).
Looking at the specs the 2.5L V6 is hardly much of an increase judging by the specs.
I may have to find one on a lot and take it for a test drive.

A 22% horsepower increase and 19% torque increase is hardly "hardly much"!

Definitely!

1) How you figure?
2) Are you looking at Dyno curves, or the usual useless peak HP & torque numbers?

Good idea. You'll like it. It's aluminum still, so much lighter than the 4.3

Eric has a 2.7l in a 89 kick. It is a very cool combo in my humble opinion. Although, his knuckles rub on the roof when he shifts.

that's so he can shift with his right ear

I've only seen the stated specs to compare.
I think I'll end up going with a 2.5L and swap both engines and drive the 4door or maybe sell it.
This just seems to be the best option for me.
I doubt I could find a decently priced 2.7L around here but that will be my preferance and I still have lots of time to look.
I can find vehicles with 2.5L's all over around here cheap but I'll most likely have to rebuild it just so its fresh.
Will a 2.7L swap in as easy as a 2.5L ?

maybe i missed this but nobody suggested gearing.. why not just use the power there better. for low end there must be some pulleys out there that will bolt on help out.. or maybe i'm just hoping for some more realistic suggestions than a swap for mine...

I'd like more displacement and go from there and if I could just swap a V6 into my ragtop and put my I4 in the 4 door and have a daily beater/winter driver(4-door) and my 2-door fun toy(ragtop) then I'd be happy.
I really think I have narrowed it down to swapping both engines.
I just have to find a V6 and pull it and do any work I feel it needs done and then put in it my ZR2 late winter/spring.
Now all I have to do is find a yellow 4 door ZR2 with a V6 for a decent price.
Once I get the engine the way I want I'll do a lift and a few other things.
