Title: 16 valve carbed
Post by: Samurai47 on August 22, 2008, 07:29:46 PM
I got a 1.6 16valve with no harness was wondering if i could put it in my sammy using the sammy carb? Would i need an 1.6 8valve intake or will the 16valve work? Just wondering if i could get this to work. Thanks.

Short answer: No.

The 1.3 intake manifold will not bolt up to the 16-valve head.  It WILL bolt up to the 8-valve head.

Long answer:  Got fabbing skills?  You could fab an adapter plate of sorts to mate the 16-valve head to the 1.3 intake, I guess... I have never heard of anyone actually doing this.

Lots of folks (including myself) HAVE used a 1.3 head/intake/exhaust combo on a 1.6 block.  The type of head that the block originally had is not of any importance.

I've seen a 1.6 8V carb manifold fitted on a 16V, the bolt holes are the same as the 1.3 also so it could be made to work. You will need a plate between the manifold and the head to blank off the injector cutouts. Biggest problem is sorting the dizzy which runs backwards on the 16V. Tim Pink on difflock.com is the expert on this.

The head swap will be the easiest answer. That's basically what the first tracker engine was. If you can fab up an adapter plate, use a carb from another car (1.6L - 2.0L). ACK's FAQ has some good info for carb swaps.
