Looking to see what people are running for mounts and arms on their t-cases. I like spidertraxs price but trail tough's desighn looks bullet proof. What about rocky road? who has these and what do think about them. I thought I would never damage the stock arms/mounts but after looking at them they are twisted/bent and the mounts are ripped in half.
Im running 6.5.1 gears,33's and a 1.6 16 valve motor so I need something that wont fail.

I'm running a Mighty Kong tcase bucket with Spidertrax polymount kit.
I have 6.5:1 gears, 34s, 4.10 R&p, with a might 1.3L
When i installed my set up it was a night and day difference compared to stock. The drive train was tightened up so much, my T-case stick hardly even moves anymore under acceleration.
I'm sure it was mostly the mounts that did all this.
I decided to go with the mighty Kong since it was also a skid plate for the tcase.

Running 6.5 gears on 33" tires with 5.12 and the mighty 970cc in my SJ-410. I manually beefed up the long arm and just ran the Rocky Road transfer case mounts for a long time. I finally tore up a couple of bushings, that in turn cracked my top transfer case mount, which allowed the transfer case to flex a bit and work the bolts in the lower mount a little bit loose, which allowed the mount to break off the transfer case when I dropped it on a rock. Not the most fun I've had on the trail. :)
If you don't have a skid plate, I would get the Mighty Kong. If you do have one, you can just beef up the mounts yourself with some angle iron and a welder, then pick any of upgraded bushing sets available. If you use the Rocky Road ones though, get some larger high grade washers. The small ones they send tend to dig into the bushings and cause them to tear. The aluminum/brass bushings that are now available are nice, but any chatter in your drive-line will be transfered to the frame. If your drive-line is nice and quiet (like it's supposed to be) it shouldn't be an issue. Low Range used to have some really nice looking "bulletproof" t-case bushings, but it looks like they pulled them off the site.

Thanks for the info. It seems every body is running the mighty kong that I have talked to. Is any one running the spidertrax or rocky-road set up?

for 9 years i've been running this http://www.rocky-road.com/superbeef.html
indestructable so far. instead of just bolting to the regular points it also bolts around the rear output

Hey ross are you running the poly mount too or the stock rubber OEM mounts
-
poly i'm running the whole kit 124.00 well worth it

I think you are talking about the red poly ones that Rockrat use to make. If so, from what I hear he no longer makes/sells these because there were several people that were having problems with them pulling apart (far from bulletproof). I heard it was his poly supplier that was the main cause (poor quality control).
BGZ, I am running beefed up stock arms (reinforced with square tubing and flat plate) with a homemade bucket/skid (copied rockrats design) to connect the arms, and stock rubber mounts. No issues at all....but I am also running a homemade kicker 3 setup (trackick tranny and tcase coupled to a samurai tcase).....so that takes a lot of the twisting out of the drivetrain, which is what bends arms and destroys mounts.
I have considered making a long arm like the one Ross is running, but I have no issues with my current setup.....so I don't see the need to change anything.

I was wondering about that. They had them on back-order for a long time, so I figured the production was halted. Shame though, I like the idea of using poly that doesn't break. :)
After breaking a large chunk off of my transfer case I finally got around to building a cradle setup for my transfer case, close to the Kong setup. The only issue I ran into is it is now very hard to get my transfer case lifted back into place. Partially because the cradle bumps into a lot of stuff, also because the setup now weighs almost twice as much. :P However, it's not going to move no matter what I kit. I use the Rocky Road "Bulletproof" mounts with larger washers.

Good info guys, I plan on going to rocky-road today and picking up their arms and mounts. If needed I will connect them into a skid plate syle to re-inforce the whole unit. :)

I would only worry about connecting them if you don't already have a skid pad underneath your SJ. If you do have a skid plate, then I wouldn't worry about it. :)

the poly mounts from RR can't break. they have a bolt all the way thru them
look at the post pic http://www.rocky-road.com/superbeef.html

True, they won't break. but you can tear the poly bushings in two, which in turns allows your transfer case to bounce up and down and gives it enough flex to break things. :) That is why I keep recommending that you replace the washers they give you with larger high grade washers that won't bite into the bushings.

I used some shock washers. fit great. kinda wrap around the bushings
-
Cool, I just got back from Rocky-Road and bought the arms.I will be installing them tomorrow.
-
do they have a short side arm. ive seen the long side only on the website?
-
If you buy the whole kit it comes with a stock short arm that has been re-inforced and powder coated.
I needed both, both my arms looked like pretzel's. I got em installed today and they are beefy and all my vibration is gone now.

thanks ;)

the nice is the t-case shifter won't smack you in the knee anymore
