Title: Are turbo or V-6 kick's really fast?
Post by: keith on September 24, 2004, 05:43:45 AM
I know a few board members have turbo or v-6's in their kicks.  Since these engines are relatively low power to begin with I wonder how much a turbo helps.  Does it make it really quick or just better than stock.  What about putting the 2.5 v-6 in.  I have driven a Grand Vitara and in it the 2.5 didn't seem overly quick.

Double the HP of a stock
Kick, hey yo it's fast yo
;D

On 30" tires running the 5.83 gears
I hit 93 MPH in the 1/4 mile, ya there is
a definate boost in power

No kidding.  Plugging that into the "drag racing estimate" equation gives an estimated 157hp, give or take depending on actual vehicle weight.  I guessed at 2500lb.

hp = weight * (qtr mile time/234)^3

I'll have to agree with Wild... double the stocker 1.6l power should make things move a bit quicker ;)

Let me put it this way, if I'm accellerating
in a stright line, at any point in 1st or 2nd
gear, if I go thru any water on the road,
both tires break loose and I get a little
sideways.

Things get very interesting very quickly
in a SWB kick when one end looses traction

My 2.0L V6 doesn't seem that fast, but a few friends have asked me if I had a turbo hidden in it after giving them a lift.

you get used to it pretty fast.  after driving my transam with the 7.1L bigblock for a while, it seems slow.  Most of the maniac associates I take for a ride claim it's too fast for them ???

I've been asked if I had a V6 in my Tracker.  ;D

I was on the interstate going to work and blew by a friend of mine in a older Grand Cherokee. When we got to work he asked me if I had a V6 in it cause he had his pedal to the floor and couldn't catch up to me.  8)

I told him nope but I plan on it one day. ;)

My dad had a 77 or78 Golden Eagle Jeep
4x4 Wagon, you know the big beast thing.

Well it had a 360 CID V8 and got 12 MPG
Highway,  and 8 MPG going to his house
in Running Springs, what a big POS that
thing was, Quadra Track  blew out 4 front
drive shafts in 150,000 Miles

AMC messed up the Jeep line bad when they
bought it, this one was so bad, he said never
again would he buy a Heep.
