Post by: bzzr2 on September 12, 2008, 08:58:33 AM
??? anybody else out there have strut mount issues or am i just beating the piss outta this bucket o' crap.  the front end just seems to be a major POS.  i see a beefed sami axle on leafs up there next spring - no, not gonna do yota's or anything fancy before the suggestions come~!  anyway this is the 3rd strut mount i've had to replace within the last 1.5yrs.

Bzzr 2, you say you broke your 3rd STRUT mount?   What's it doing?  Are the rubber bushings  tearing out or are the three mounting bolts pulling thru/out or what?   Strut mounts are tough as hell and I can't even get frozen strut shafts beat out of them cause the rubber bounces so much and won't let go.  Two inch lift in the front isn't excessive so I don't see what would be causing them to get trashed.

"03-ZR2 soft-top, 31x9.5 swamper radial's, 2inch RR BL, XL7 rear coils with 1.75inch spacer, 1.5inch front spacer, BDS strut extensions, mustang rear shocks, manual recovery gear and really scratched paint"

no pics of the f'ed mount...

ya, rubber bushing tearing out, i might have been driving a little hard but nothing crazy, really have not been doing a lot of real wheeling lately, all kinds of little problems lately..  i don't have bumpstop extensions so maybe they're coming up too far and pushing too hard but when i look at the strut it doesn't appear to compress that far ever so who knows.  POS.

Those babies are salty in price too!  I think I just paid about $54 for one on a recent OME spring and strut install.   To make it worse, when they "special ordered my strut mount.... the aftermarket parts store ordered the wrong one (my receipt and the actual part number of the mount was different) so I had to fabricate (NATO engineer) in the middle of the install (when it was discovered and parts were laying all over the place... of course).

Did you buy OEM mounts or did you get them at an aftermarket parts store?
