Title: back spacing?
Post by: hootie2112 on September 15, 2008, 09:55:33 PM
This is probably a noob question.  I have a 98 tracker with 2" body lift and Jeff's coil spacers.  Have 235's on tracker stock rims and was wanting new rims.  What rims should i go run with the 235 tires.  Don't know anything about backspacing as I am fairly new to the 4 wheel game.  any help would be great, and sorry if this was a stupid question.

thanks,

hoot

Here's how to measure backspacing,  The lower the number the more it sticks out.  I.E. 2.5" sticks out more than 3.75"

Measure your backspacing then decide if you want your wheels to hang more.

Hope that helps.

The BFG's I want for my 2"-lifted Samurai, 235/75x15 (about a 29x9.5), are specified for 6-7" rims.

I've now got 7" rims now, so I'll stay with them.  If I were to run wider tires, 10.5" or more, I'd be into 8" or wider rims [I prefer to go with the tire manufacturer's recommendations].  Standard rims place the mounting surface in the center. A 7" wide rim therefore has 4" backspacing. On a Samurai, this is OK up to around 29 (or 30)x9.5" tires.
