Title: Sticking transfer case shifter
Post by: nprecon on September 17, 2008, 10:00:07 PM
My shifter on my transfer case is smooth going into 4H, but stiff as hell going into 4L.  Once in 4L it is an aboslute bear to pull back into 4 Hi, then 2wd.

Anyone experienced this and can enlighten me as to the cause of it?   I'd appreciate it.   Do the 2nd gen trackers/kicks have shifter sheets in the transfer case shifter asc well?.

Are you stopped and in N?  I have found that just stopping doesn't unload the gears you need to shift to N or push the clutch in.

Yep, I come to a  dead halt.  I've tried double clutching and even shifting the tranny into 1st or 2nd then back to neutral, but it's still a bear.  4HI works slick.  No problems at all.  It's just 4LO.  I'm talking sitting 2-3 minutes torqing on the shifter to get it from HI to Lo or LO to HI.  Once it pops in, it goes like hell.  Just tough getting into and out of the Lo range.  I KNOW it isn't supposed to be doing this... I'm just curious of some isead on what the issue is with it.

try shifting to n and letting the clutch out. If its still hard to shift let off the brake and roll a little bit in N to unload the tcase.

Thanks, I will give that a try and see how it works.
