o.k. I did up a funny drawing of what those doors would look like in my kick. Also, the back doors would each have a track (maybe from a mini van) and they would slide back like a van door.

Just trying to think outside the box. I've wanted a way to open the back doors in tight spots, so I had some ideas.

If I spend any of my days off on the comp, I'll do up a nice gif with better detail. I'll keep everyone posted! Going to the wreckers Monday!

the back door idea doesnt seem half bad
but any kits for the front doors will cost 2-3k lol
and making it urself will require alot of machining
-
all i can say is.........GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! Cool idea though, would be sweet if you pulled it off.
-
on a side note that tracker doors are not very heavy..so that might be on ur side
-
Yep, your CRAZY ;D It is a wild idea. Ive seen stuff like that done to PU's and low riders at car shows. If a heavy Cadi door can be made to do it, I dont see why you could not do it with yours. If your creative enough and good with fabricating, any thing is possible with the right info.
If the mivi van slide door railing works out to be easier, you could turn your 4 doors into two big sliding doors and have your Kick open up like the Montana Minivans :-/
Just an Idea.

I'm lucky I have a few friends that want to help out with that, because yes, I followed up on getting the actual door kit and it'll be just over 5 grand.
I was just going to do a simple GIF display, but I'm doing a full 3D sim of the setup for accurate representation. My wife decided that she'd support all my door mods, as she still wants me to wait on the susp. lift and the body lift... She also wants a back door that swings up and lays almost on top of the roof. I'm not so worried about the van door gimick, but the back door is going to be difficult.

Yeah, I might try that, but hopefully I can try a lot of things and not go too far with this... I at first wanted some suicide doors in the back, so I might settle with that if things get to crazy! 8)
OFF to the wreckers tomorrow!

I'm really starting to have fun with this thing. I'm planning on doing up my own site and I'll start photo tracking all of the mods I do. Yeah, my wife sidetracks me all the time. She just doesn't want to pull up to the college in what she thinks will be a monster truck. I tried to word it ever so 'gentle', saying that it would only look slightly more aggressive, and it's not like you have to climb up the tires to get in. Speaking of tires, when I put the big meats on, that will be hard for her to deal with. But you are right Wild, she doesn't want the lift....YET ;D
Thats why I'm looking at getting a little car for her. She loves driving standard, so I'll get something like a corolla or an old accord.
I'm also trying to get a wheeling club going here in town and so far it's a bomb (not da bomb), but I think if I get my ass in gear and do up my 4 door, people might think, hey, thats neat, I'd like to do that...
steveo

tell her not to worry about having to climb up the tires..i had to think about this a few days ago when i relized my floor boards will be about arm pit heigh if ur 6 foot lol
i am just going to get some step bars that retract behind the rock sliders..boom problem solved lol
-
why dont you just set the rear seat facing back, and do the entry thru the tail gate!! ;D just kidding ::)
-
Alright guys I spent about 2 hours at the wreckers tearing up old mini vans. I got most of the parts I need for the crazy idea and I also scored some leather seats out of a 'god knows what' car. I'm charging up my camera batteries to take some photos of the whole operation. I have to go back tommorow to get the one slider and another couple of things off the side that was on the ground. I'm going to have to get a couple of jacks if I want to do the other side of the car like the drivers side. I have not started on the front doors, as I want to see how this sliding thing turns out. I found some nice gear for the rear door as well, but that might be a 'later this month...' project. Will keep you all posted.

Oh yeah, I made a new friend that does body work, so I get to tear the thing apart, put the setup together and he's going to touch it all up after and make it easy on the eyes.
steveo
:o (as I glance over at the crap covered leather seats that need cleaning)
-
I really dig the idea for the back doors... the front, I'm so-so on, but I'm sure it'll all tie together nicely when complete :)

$50, sounds cheap. Parts sold seperately? hmmm. I love this idea though, so much better than climbing out the windows when your door is up against something ;D ;D
-
climbing out of windows eh!  It never fails to make me grin and think of Bo & Luke, the good ole boys from the TV of my youth...heh, I'm getting a respray...perhaps I should add a Confederate flag on the bonnet.... ;)
( it's always reassuring that you can get out of the window, assisted by the adrenaline rush )

Interesting idea! As a thought, why not make both doors into 1 and have the whole thing slide backwards?
Then you could use those newer Carvan type door openers. (Push a button & have the door(s) slide open.)

Well I went back for another rail at the wreckers and caught a whole lot of shit for jumping the fence. Yesterday, they were like: Yeah man, go on in and grab what you need. The fence wasn't open yesterday, so I had to jump it then!
So anyway, I grabbed a ton of cool stuff out of this 'newer' wreck and am walking back to my zuke with my little brother in tow and here the yard super pulls up and starts shouting at me. First I get him to calm down and then he tells me that all the stuff is going to cost me about 20 bucks. I say, that's fine, I'll leave it here (the rail, some speakers, an upper console and some other hinges) and come back tommorow. He gives me this speech, saying I'm brain dead and blah blah blah, and finally I'm like whatever, I don't need this stuff and my little (well, he's younger than me, but a big boy) brother starts telling the guy to f-off. Then I got the guy all shouting again I I just peel out of there, telling him I won't be back. What a nerve wracking experience! I was about to clobber the guy with my crow bar!! Even as I'm typing this I'm starting to shake.
So anyway, my project is put on hold for a while, until I can either make ammends down at the yard or find an alternative way to get the rail I need. I have all the things to attach the stuff to my doors, but without the other rail, I'm screwed.
What an ass that guy was, really puts a downer on a persons day!

The alternative way would be all black clothing with a black ski mask under the cover of night ;D
But seriously, that sucks. No other scrapyards up there where you're at in Canuckistan?

No dice there, he picked up all that I pulled out and put it in his truck. I considered going back and torching the whole place down :o, you should have heard the profanity and insults that he threw at me and my brother. I feel better today, I'm cooled off a bit, but yeah, it's the only scrap yard right in town. The other yards in town are run by the used parts guys, so I can't actually go up to a vehicle and say, thats nice, I'll take that. I had a great setup at this place, but this is the first run in (the first time I've seen this guy there) with them where they gave me hell for being there. I told him the deal I had with another guy (who I assumed was in charge by what he said to me), but he wouldn't calm down enough to listen to me... whatever... assumption is the mother of all screwups I guess.

He's the superintendant, does he own the place? If not just go to the owner.
-
He's the super(ass). Yeah, I asked who the owner was, and he just swore at me. I heard their office is across town, so I'm heading over there soon to work something out.

Hopefully it works out for ya. :-/

I must be missing something. Do they have socialized used auto-parts in Canadia? From the sounds, here in the states the bill would be $100-200US... not $20C.
BTW, if you visit the states, don't jump a locked fence into a yard. They'll turn the dogs loose on you, if the yard isn't occupied... or just shoot if it is. What's left, they'll drag to the gate for the Police to take away.

Pray to God you never have to park in the underground parking garage again!

From that pic it looks like you would not have alot of room getting in and out :-/

do it man...just because it can be done.

Never really understood the lambo doors. They look alright but for me, the gullwing (think early James Bond and/or DeLorean) doors were kick-ass. Plus if you got to speed and popped the doors, you could probably take off!! ;D

I don't see how this:

Would have helped me out of this situation:

???
I had to go out through the passenger side.

Yeah, I used to live in Florida, I know all about the American frame of mind towards trespassers...
The reason I 'jump' the fence is because when I go there, they never walk down and unlock the gate, even when I ask them. "Yeah man, just go in." Besides, I made a deal and when it came to their end, they didn't hold up too well... obviously I talked to the wrong employee the other day and that brought down the super. It's just a steel yard, not a used auto parts yard, so when I first started going, the person I assumed was in charge told me that if I could pull it out, I could have it, hense the sweet arrangement. Things change I guess, but this little set back isn't going to stop me from doing the idea. I HAVE A BACKUP!

Hey Heather! I agree, the doors would have been a waste there. I'm still thinking on the doors. It has some utility purpose, but I'll be honest and say it’s more for shock factor than practicality. The sliding doors are a go however and as soon as I get the next rail, the kick is in the garage for a few days!

:) I wish we still had yards like that around here, still.
Years ago, we used to skirt around the various yards. (Back when you took off your own parts.) We were carrying a tool box & a box to toss the parts in.
'Walked past this old bus & their junkyard dog came launching out the door. Thankfully, he was on a short chain... another 4" and he'd have had us.
It makes me wonder if he had "Craftsman" stenciled on the left side of his head for long. Tim smacked him pretty well w/ the toolbox, when jumping back. :P
