Hey guys, now that its raining all the time on me I need to repair my soft top. (BTW 88 Sami) The flaps that hook under where the door closes wont stay velcro'd which makes it drip rain on my seats. I think the tiny little velcro strips are worn out. I can get big 1" wide ones that would work excellent. My question is what do I need to know before I sew more velcro to the top? How are those holes sealed up?

Same thing happened to me, we have a local canvas shop in my town that did what you are describing for like 5.00 bucks, thats what i would do. good luck and stay dry.

Im just wondering how they seal the stitches? Or does it even matter?

my soft top had most of the stitching rotted when i got it.
i ued to be a sail maker, so i have needles, palm, and thread, so restitchingwas no problem.
i used bee's wax on the thread and it seems to have remained water-tite for better than a year now.

A friend of mine who makes custom boat covers also uses Bee's Wax to seal the threads on exposed seams. It seems to be a common practice in the canvas industry.

x3 for the Beeswax, it also helps keep the zipper action smooth.
